Personal/Social Competency Reflection
Personally while I am online I have a few strategies to maintain a healthy presence. One principal that I have gone by for a long time is I only let people I know in real life follow me and I do not give out any sort of personal information to someone that I do not know in real life. If someone I didn’t know in real life would ask me for this type of information I would do one of two things: either just not answer there question or just leave the conversation and possibly block them. The other strategy I like to go by is keeping all my accounts on private and not posting or commenting very much. For me I don’t feel the need to post or comment on other’s posts so I just opt not to and remain more private instead.
My values around different issues inform my decisions about posting online. When on social media I don’t make posts or put stuff on my story daily because I believe that people do not need to be that involved in my life, the times that I do post on my stories and such are when it is an issue in the world and I want to support solving the issue. The memory that comes to mind about posting on my story to help with an issue was back in the summer when the Australian bush fires were burning furiously. I had seen in the news what was happening and various fundraisers on social media, so I found a couple that were not scams and were actually helping the cause and reposted them on my story.
By communicating and helping my peers with school work online, I make a positive difference to my peers. Especially since Covid-19 hit, I have been using different messaging platforms and social media to notify my friends and peers of what is for homework or just helping them with homework through these platforms. I think this is quite positive because we all have to support each other during these times and it makes all of our lives easier.
