Making and Sharing Reflection

To reduce food waste, in each of our units we have a compost bin. Not only that but Ms. Bolli gets us our ingredients for us so that we have what we NEED not what we want. There are times where some people have used an ingredient and there’s a small amount left of it that no ones willing to take. Often in those situations, I or someone else volunteers or Ms. Bolli uses it for her lunch. Lastly, if we have leftovers of a dish, Ms. Bolli makes sure we take it home to give to our families or eat later during the day.

I feel individually I work a lot better than in groups, this is because I am in control and don’t have to worry whether or not I’m going to mess something up; If I do I will own up to my mistakes. However, sometimes working in groups can be quite an advantage. This is because you have less work to do and while your partner is doing their job and you’re finished, you can help clean up which could lead to us getting out early or have time to finish an assignment. You also get to work on your communication skills so if you do not communicate clearly with your partner it could mess you up. But I still prefer working alone because I have less weight on my shoulders whereas in groups I have people asking me where everything is or what to do even though it was already said or shown what to do. Overall, working individually and with a partner allows you to work on independence and reliability.

Core Competency Reflection

As an active listener, I notice that I help people around me by telling them what to do and how to do it because sometimes they don’t pay attention. However, I am also guilty of this because Foods 10 is my last class and usually my brain just shuts down and I doze off. But when I am not that tired I am able to do my job and help others.

If there is a disagreement within my group, I find it helpful to play Rock Paper Scissors because that is the old fashioned way of sorting things out. But if the disagreement gets really serious then I would like to just agree with the person then continue arguing.

I know the group is working well together when I see everyone doing their job and the process of the dishes are looking good so far. I also know it is going well when people aren’t complaining or just standing there doing nothing.
