For this project, we were required to make a self-portrait using the graph functions we had learned this year. We were allowed to trace our portrait using a photo of ourselves from our camera roll. I had chosen a photo of myself as a guide not realizing how difficult it would be to make my hair. My hair alone took me over 3 hours as I had to do every little section piece by piece. It was very time-consuming and the only way for me to get the look I wanted. I had to use liner, cubic, parabolas and cos x functions. However, once I got the look I was looking for I was relieved and happy to be done with it. I also added some extra details to my portrait such as a necklace as I was wearing one in the photo and thought I should include it. As well as doing every individual tooth as I am smiling and at first was only going to draw one parabola across and not show my teeth. When I started to do my teeth though it looked good so I did the whole thing. To get the exact colour of my eyes, skin, and shirt I used an eyedropper tool that gave me the colour and I just typed it in to the system for the part I needed it for. My eye outline was probably the easiest for me to draw as I have almond shaped eyes and I only needed to use two parabolas for each eye. I decided to only fill my lips, eyes and eyebrows in as I had originally planned to fill in my hair as well, but I did not want to loose out on the detail I had added to it. So I just left the outline. I also realized that once you had run out of lower case letters you could use capital letters for when you type in the colour or when filling in a facial feature. For my nose I used a hyperbola for the structure of the upper part of my noes and the two circles which I restricted to make semicircles and at the bottom a cos x function. The noes took some time to get right I do think the finial nose turned out great. It was difficult to place the nose in the right place as my face is not centred in the middle of the graph and so the nose had to be a little of centred. I also used more than what was needed for the required graphs like two hyperbolas, and five circles. I feel I have done a great job with making this portrait look similar to me and I think it was really cool to know that I could make a whole self portrait of myself using only graphs.

Core Competency Self-Assessment: Diffusion Through a Membrane lab
For this lab, everyone worked with a partner. As well we work with another set of partners who did one part while we did the other part. My partner and I worked on Part A which was the starch and the other group worked on part B which was the Glucose. I was able to use the three different core competencies throughout this lab. The first core competency I showed was Communication, I had to take on certain roles and listen and discuss things with my partner. I also needed to discuss things with the group that was doing part B. For example, we would discuss the process of doing the lab and the observations we made. My partner and I also had to communicate with one another when actually doing the physical lab so we did not miss anything or do it wrong. For Thinking competency, before we even begin making the sausage and starting the lab we both made sure that we had read the lab carefully and paid close attention when our instructor was demonstrating what we needed to do. By reading the lab before hand we were able to take a very short time in making the starch solution and we could make more observations with the time that we saved, as we already needed to wait 20 minutes before we could observe and would not have had we much time afterwards. Finally, for my Personal competency I was able to work well with my partner and we had no conflict or disagreements about the lab. For next time however, I would like to talk to the other group more as we really didn’t talk to the group doing portion B and would have liked to know more about how their experiment went. Along with this I needed to use text message to communicate with the other group since on both days, there was not enough time for us to talk to each other.
I made sure to talk to my partner about this lab and tell her about some of the observations we missed we looked at the beaker. Looking over the lab and seeing everything we needed for it helped me be more organized when doing the lab and take less time. I was able to come in a few minutes before class to get a head start to make sure our lab would be finished in time. I made sure my answers were detailed and not to general.
when we had finished doing our lab my partner and I went to the other group and helped them finish their part so they could have enough time to still make their observations. my partner and I were great at doing the lab together and shared the work evenly I took on more of a role in making the observations and getting the materials as I knew all the measurements. While my partner took on the main role of making the lab while I helped. Next time I would like to help more in the actual build process of the lab as to me that is always my favourite and most interesting part.
