Midsummer: The Movie

My Movie

Character, Setting, and Mood

Both Theseus & Hippolyta are royals so they should look elegant, and sophisticated. We had previously known that they were Greek but had forgotten and kept their skin white. In the story it says they are Greek, (even though the Amazons did not exist anywhere near Greece) on the Mediterranean Sea, because he is the Duke of Athens. The story says they are next to a forest. The entire book is very contradictory in saying that the name of the book / movie means they are in mid June, but then goes on and makes a May Day ceremony, a ceremony that takes place on either the first of May or the first Monday of May. The mood was more mature, from the fact that they talk about war, and binding marriage. But it is somewhat lighthearted and funny by adding lines like “I kiss the wall’s hole not your lips at all” or the way that Bottom talks by saying certain words incorrectly or not knowing what they mean but adding big words for effect. In addition, Mr. Wallace had pointed out that by not even adding lines the director of the movie could add feeling to certain characters. He showed us both the 1968 version and the 1999 version. In the first one they seemed very strict on how they presented the characters, like how Helena’s dialogue when she’s alone is talking TO the camera and not as if she’s scheming a plan, and everything they did was very rigid and LOOKED scripted. But all the commoners looked strictly like commoners and as if they were dirt poor and nothing else. In the newer version however Bottom is not just a commoner, but he has fancy clothes because he is a weaver, which is a cool detail.

Core Competencies

  1. Communication

– I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.

During the presentation making process I was able to show leadership and show what was needed to be done, and we were able to make the presentation well.

– I work with others to achieve a goal.

We worked together to make the presentation and we worked evenly so that everyone could do the same amount of work.

2. Personal / Social

  • Positive Personal & Cultural Identity

– I can identify and describe my qualities.

I did this by looking at myself like I was someone else. I do this a lot when I read my own written paragraphs, for example. A lot of times I say something partially because my brain is wired and not looking at the whole picture.

  • Personal Awareness & Responsibility

– I make choices that keep me safe in my community and online.

By not responding to people online when they taunt me or bully me there is no real danger. I have not eliminated the danger but minimalized it as much as is possible.

  • Social Awareness & Responsibility

– I am kind to others, and support others when they need it.

I enjoy being kind to others and supporting them, even when they might need it but might not ask for it.

3. Thinking

  • Creative Thinking

– I can develop a body of creative work over time.

If I have time to work on a project I can then put in the most effort if possible. I write as if I am always creating an essay or a formal narrative, so it does not take me long to put a lot of effort into something.

  • Critical & Reflective Thinking

– I can analyze evidence and make judgements.

Most of the time I do this in my head and not aloud but I can analyze small details and judge the situation accordingly.

Meal Planning Assignment

Problem

The problem is that the family wants to have everyone cook at least once a week and that the meals are spread evenly among their strengths and weaknesses. The meal plan should be able to fluidly spread among their weekly activities. The family wants to know who, when, what, dinner will be cooked.

Step 3: Serve chicken mixture with warmed tortillas, guacamole, cilantro and lime wedges.

Justification

Our meal plan works well because every meal was carefully worked out so that it would work well with everyone in the family’s schedule and so that the recipe would be fully used by the family (so if a recipe was eight servings we did a half recipe). We included it to make sure that after-school/work activities would be included for the other people. For Friday however, we had to make some sacrifices. We made enough servings to feed the family but Teen 1 works on Fridays so we had to make the family eat at 6:30pm. Teen 1 would heat what’s left of the food on Friday and eat then. We could not make the entire family sacrifice eating at 9 30 pm so that they all eat together.

Collaboration Reflection

We communicated by: talking to each other when we were having conflicting issues,

We used a shared Word document to work on a table together. I was used to sharing digital tools with other people because of past years being able to use them.

We distributed the work evenly by giving one family member per person. We also split up the remaining questions evenly among the four of us.

I took the role in the family of Parent B. I also did the “Problem” section for my group.

Website

https://www.raptorsridge.com/

The Raptors Ridge is a sanctuary for injured birds of prey. They offer walks with the birds for people to see that they aren’t nasty creatures. It is my favorite website because I love animals and being in natural environments.

Quote

If they kill you, walk it off.

(Captain America – Avengers: Age of Ultron)

The quote shows resilience by saying that anything that can be done to you, you can fight it off and fight back against it, whatever it may be.

Video

Steve Irwin in this clip shows that even if you are in a dangerous situation you can recover all while keeping calm. If he had freaked out he would’ve lost his dignity for one, and two he would’ve freaked the snake out more and made it keep biting for longer and longer. By keeping his calm he made sure everyone around him stayed safe while he stayed calm
