My Movie
Plot, Character, Setting, and Mood
To decide what my character would look like was a bit of a challenge. This novel is not very popular, therefore there aren’t many online illustrations of characters, locations, etc. I had to go back to the earliest part of the story to see how the protagonist described herself or subtle hints given to her appearance. I landed on having medium length pink hair, light eyes, and a fair skin-tone.
For finding descriptive and important plot points, I had to be certain I didn’t spoil the ending of the novel. I went through and listed the moments I remembered as being the most impactful to the story. Without adding small moments that of course were valuable, but didn’t influence the main storyline. Only a side plot. (Eg. A developing friendship)
Setting was a lot of fun! Since this book was Fantasy, and based off of the Wizard of Oz. I enjoyed finding images that really represented what I personally saw when reading. Places like the palace were easy, since they were shown in the original film. On the other hand, Gert’s room was something only shown in the book.
For the mood of the story, I knew it had to have a fast tempo and a mystical feel to it. Since I needed to find a royalty free soundtrack. It was quite the task for the minimal selection.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with the outcome of my movie, considering I’ve never done something like this before.
Core Competency Reflection
Examples where I communicate clearly and purposefully are the images where I made the Character’s that weren’t my Protagonist. I represented my personal perspective of the side characters appearance and made their photos according to that. Communicating my thoughts visually was a lot of fun.
When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I either turn on some sort of music. To try and trick my brain into thinking that the work I’m doing is slightly more enjoyable than it is. Or I (try) to take a break, do something I like to do for 10-15 minutes, have something to eat, hang out with my cat, etc. Allowing my mind to have a little break from working on schoolwork.
An example of where I took a significant risk in my thinking was when I added extra slides at the end of the presentation that gave the viewer a little more intel on characters that were not showcased earlier in the “movie”. It was not a part of the criteria, but I thought since I’m making a movie. It would be an interesting and creative element to include.
