Math edublog

The part of chapter 1 that I am most comfortable with is radicals and how to deal with them. Learning these new concepts and learning how to apply them to the equations and expressions. The most difficult part of this chapter was learning how to analyze equations and factor accordingly. Identifying difference of squares, perfect squares and when to use decomposition was my largest struggle on the past quiz. I learn new concepts best when I’m actively testing the concept out with trial and error. To prepare for the test I am going to do most of the practice questions in the review section of the workbook. I have completed all assigned practice problems and I plan on doing more tonight. “I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior.” This statement means I try my best with ever task and I make sure to hold myself accountable to my own learning.

Japanese reflection no1

My horoscope is Aquarius. Characteristics of Aquarius are advanced, self-reliant, clever, exceptional and optimistic. I have never strongly believed in horoscopes and honestly never took them into consideration. I have found little correlation to any of the characteristics listed, they all have a loose description of qualities that every single person could have. I think it is fun and coincidental when the horoscope aligns with some of your own values but it is nothing more than fun and coincidental. I have never been judged by my horoscope although I am not a gemini. Personality type is a different question, I have not been judged but more so categorized in careers class. We would figure out of personality type and then be assigned jobs based on our type. I hadn’t considered any of my jobs and they were just given to me because of my assumed compatibility. Even though these tests and quizzes are mostly untrue they are still popular because it is fun and keeps people curious about something with little to no value. I may not believe in horoscopes but I am incredibly superstitious. Before basketball games I cannot drink water only small sprays, I also cannot wear any clothes underneath my jersey (besides underwear). Many other things like not touching the surface of vinyl records and cds, not telling people my birthday wishes. I think even though they might not be true it is fun and adds extra character to yourself. It can also add a sense of confidence to an area where you may not feel so confident about.

English final edublog

In this assignment we had to create a short story, I think this is a good example of my “create and communicate core competencies”. This story relates to indigenous principles because in indigenous culture and teachings greed and dishonesty trigger bad karma. Learning from experiences and getting what your actions deserve is a common theme in indigenous learning. I believe indigenous principles are very important and the way they teach is one of the best ways to teach the up and coming generations. Reconciliation can be worked towards in may ways and awareness is one of the best ways in my opinion. Learning why the culture and teachings are just as important is huge for the preservation of the indigenous culture in Canada. Learning about how there are small elements of indigenous learning in all of life will work towards a greater understanding of there culture.

Creative thinking core competency.

Creating a story is not an easy task, even a short story. It took a bit of thinking at the beginning to get inspired and figure out what I was going to do. Taking all of your ideas and working them into a short story is no small task. I put a lot of effort into taking this story and giving it indigenous principles and teachings, learning through challenges and experiences is something I think is prevalent in indigenous teachings.

Chem 11 titration edublog

Titration is a technique used to determine the concentration of an unknown substance by slowly adding a reagent which has a known concentration. In this lab we titrated a hydrochloric acid solution of undetermined concentration with standardized sodium hydroxide. The endpoint in a titration lab signifies when the concentrations of the titrate and the titrant are chemically equivalent. The end point in this titration lab was when the colour of our phenolphthalein indicator in the HCl changed from clear to light pink. The titration reached the endpoint at around 14.63 ml of NAOH left in the burette.

Core competency reflection

During this lab you and your partner had to communicate very well. Agreeing upon what our next course of action should be and whether or not more of the titrant should be added. Assigning jobs and making our roles clear was important to complete this lab as accurately as possible. I think that my lab partner and I had very good communication when it was time to execute and follow the steps. During the titration we communicated our findings so that we could be as precise as possible.

Life saving measures

I have a couple takeaways from the presentations, I felt like they were very informative and I am educated in what to do in the event of emergency. I was interested in naloxone a little more than the other presentations, learning about just how accessible naloxone is to the public was very interesting. You can access naloxone in pharmacies and health centres, there is also a health bus that drives around administrating it. The fact that more people die from overdoes than anything else if you are in-between the ages of 10-60 is crazy to think about. If you don’t even use drugs you are still more likely to die from an overdoes than any other cause. Dying from cancer, car crashes and suicide are all less likely then dying from an overdose. Learning about that was crazy to me and it really made me think about how big of a problem it is. Learning about CPR is something we do every year but this year it was a little more in depth. I didn’t know that CPR was almost ineffective if you don’t break the ribs was very interesting to me because it is not what you see on tv. They never tell you about how breaking the ribs is necessary and ill remember that if I ever need to give CPR.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

Learning about the stigma surrounding drug users and male drug users was interesting. Everyone has a life and a story, everyone made decisions or was affected by external conditions that put them in that position. Every person deserves help and there are no right-offs when it comes to mental and physical health.

Law-Desert island project

During this project we were told to design a legal code. 30 people are deserted on an island and they need to organize the society. You are in charge of assembling a system for the society to exist within and the laws they must abide by. This includes punishments, law enforcement, rights and freedoms, and of course common law and criminal law.

Core competency reflection

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. During this project there was a lot of information to include and it had to be done according to criteria. I believe I shared the information I had gathered and that I represented by opinions through my written work. The way I organized the information was clear and concise, it showcased my understanding of the topic.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. There was lots of evidence during this assignment, lots of things you had to include. I took into consideration multiple sources and then made my decision as to how I would do about my assignment specifically.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. During this project everybody was given the same task they just decided how to go about it differently. I took ideas from my peers and I used examples from real world and imagined societies.

I can persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior. This was a very long project and to succeed you had to balance your work throughout a long period of time. Good work habits were very important in the execution of this project.

Curricular competencies reflection

During this assignment I learned about the perspective of the indigenous peoples when the colonists arrived, and why it is important to be authentic and respectful when retelling stories or events. In the film, the misrepresentation of the indigenous culture was prevalent. By doing a synthesis assignment on this film I widened my writing and reading comprehension skills, reforming my writing was key to showing my understanding about the concepts. The lessons that we took away from the synthesis project are true in everything you might do in life. Being authentic and true to history, especially when it concerns the integrity and pride of a culture, is vital to reconciliation.

Core competencies reflection

I represented my critical and reflective thinking skills/competencies in this assignment my looking at my work critically and objectively. With help I was able to improve my work and elevate it; I got feedback from my peers and teacher that helped me reflect and improve. During this assignment the goal was to take big ideas away from the texts and criticize/think reflectively about the authenticity of the two stories we looked at. Being able to see many points of view and understanding the feelings of the characters was huge when writing my synthesis.

My poem

Rainy days

The smell of fresh rain fills the air. Dark clouds role overhead, No visible light in the sky. Underneath the thunder and rain there’s a peace. An uncertain calm that comes with the rain. A smooth refreshing silence as the rain blocks out all noise. Standing in the rain not caring if You get wet, not caring what happens next. You feel every drop land on your skin.

Core competency

I deliberately learn about things that interest me, and new ideas pop into my head.
