Spooky Spider Cookies

Making + Sharing

To make these Spooky Spider Cookies I needed a few things I had never used in this class before, such as a piping bag. I used all the basic cookie making equipment such as a jelly roll pan, and electric mixer etc. I got the idea off Pinterest, I thought it was so cute and relatively easy to make. The majority of what I needed was provided in class such as butter, eggs, vanilla, sugars, flour, corn starch, baking soda, salt, melting chocolate and marshmallows. All I needed to get on my own was peanut butter, mini Reese’s peanut better cups and candy eyeballs. this costed a total of $10.50 for me. It took me two classes to complete, the first day was super easy going as I was only making the dough for my cookies and chilling them overnight. The in second day however was a bit hectic because I had to do some decorating which I’m not super experienced with so I felt a bit rushed but in the end it turned out okay. We ended up sharing all our Halloween recipes with some staff and it was super cool to see everyone’s ideas.

Core Competency Reflection

I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see…

When I see all of us working, nobody standing around I know we’re working well together. I find it to be easier to get my own tasks done because everyone is occupied, everyone knows their job and contributes.

While working in the kitchen, I help to build and extend understanding by…

I make sure firstly, I’m aware of what everyone else is doing, the tools and space they’ll need in the kitchen. I communicate what I’m working on and what I’ll need from my group members in order to succeed.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I…

I of course will make myself and my group members aware of who each of us are, I will sort of take the lead in conversation in order to make not only myself but my group members comfortable with each other. I feel that knowing at least 1 unique fact about the people I’m working with is very important, it sheds this layer of awkwardness because it allows everyone to be vulnerable and know we all have that in common.

What is one goal you have for yourself moving forward? If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to…

I would really like to work on communicating when something is not working how it should in the group. I am not a very confrontational person so if there’s any issues for example, when working on this Halloween lab one of my group members finished first and sort of just hung around the already small kitchen space we have to use. I’d like to be able to communicate that I need more space or just explain how I feel that because he was done he should’ve maybe moved to the table and worked on something else instead of hovering over us cooking. I really just want to improve on communicating my needs without feeling like I burden my group members, because avoiding conflict is important to me but so is earning the mark I deserve.
