Show and Tell Presentation Reflection and Self- Assessment

Curricular Response

I believe my greatest strengths of my Show and Tell Presentation was the research and the conclusion on why ‘The Blair Witch Project’ was scary. I have broken down how the film utilize a unique marketing techniques and tension build up. By blurring the lines between fiction and reality, the film was able to exploit the audience’s curiosity and fear, building up suspense within the year prior to the release date. I have learned a lot about the film and its background whilst the creation of the project, discovering that the film directors have severely traumatize their actors.

The advantages on inquiry projects like the Show and Tell presentation is the ability to explore any subject in an given field. The broadness is both its advantage and disadvantage. For future assignments like the Show and Tell Presentation, I would approach it differently by creating my own specific objectives and guidelines, thus eliminating the obscureness of the project. Objectives like, why did I focus on this topic; what’s the significance/correlation/history of X to the topic; etc.

Core Competency Self-Assessment.

Originally my focus was on the Found Footage/Analog Horror genre and how they came to be. However, I pivoted my focus to ‘The Blair Witch Project’, having remembered that it was the movie that popularize the filming technique/genre of found footage. I focused mainly on the how the film merited it’s success and the impact on the world of filming and the community. This decision is something I did not regret, because of the fact that I quite enjoyed learning more about this film’s background rather than giving a simple analysis/review.

I utilize two key methods in order to collect relevant data on ‘The Blair Witch Project’.  Firstly, I watch video essays on YouTube related to ‘The Blair Witch Project’, providing me with its background and its strategies to build up tension within the community.  Additionally, I referred to several articles about the ‘Blair Witch Project’, specifically what was happening behind the scenes and how the movie was filmed. Through this approach I was able to collect data on the making of the film and it’s reason of success.
