Curricular Competencies Reflection

During this assignment I learned how to properly work with a partner to create a short story. I feel that I have grown in my writing skills doing this assignment by learning how to share a lot of information without having to write too many words in the story. What i have learned in writing is valuable because it will help me write good short stories in the future.

Core Competencies Reflection

During this assignment I demonstrated the thinking core competency when coming up with all of the ideas in my story. My partner and I had many routes we were going to take for our stories plot, but ended up choosing the one did after a peaceful debate and because it was the most drastic route and thought it would catch peoples eye. If i were to do this assignment again i would probably make the assignment longer because i feel that in some parts things progress to fast.

Linear System Group Assignment

Our group needed to create our own linear systems by showing them in a graph and in algebraic equations.

Curricular Response

During this activity my group and I used mathematical vocabulary such as variable, standard form, slope-intercept form, and one solution. My group and I talked about the variables multiple times mainly because we were trying to find out what it is but also because we kept forgetting where to place it at times. We used the terms standard and slope-intercept form when we were discussing what form it would be easiest to change our equation to. We used the term one solution because we needed to create an equation that was one solution and not infinite or no solution.

using precise mathematical vocabulary improves understanding because it is specific. When you use precise vocabulary you can’t mistaken it for other words because it has one main meaning which thus helps you understand what you are talking about.

My group and I chose to solve our equation with substitution. We chose this method because the equation was already set up to do so. We did this by plugging in y=-x+9 into y=3/2+4.

During the time my group and I worked together i displayed respect and inclusivity to my peers to achieve our goal of completing our linear equations. We communicated effectively to understand each other’s points of view to create the best solution. We all equally did our part in working and completing the equation.

– I am kind to others, and support others when they need it.

As my group and I were solving our equation, we constantly assured and helped each other understand the equation and the steps that went into solving it. We also politely pointed out mistakes in the equation while we were solving it.

Spanish 10 Core Competency Assignment

Me Te Le Nos Les dialogue

I expressed involvement in the communication core competency during this assignment by sharing ideas with my parter, discussing strategies, and writing down carefully thought through dialogue. My partner and I struggled tremendously during this assignment. Though it was difficult, we stayed focused and completed the task on time with few errors. If I were to do this assignment again I would read it over multiple times before handing it in.

Spanish 10 Core Competency Reflection

Collaborating

My artifact is a picture of my groups script for our first Spanish presentation.

During my Spanish 10 class I collaborated with two classmates of mine to create a script for a Spanish presentation. The core competency I chose was collaborating. I chose collaborating because my group and I worked together to get all of the criteria needed for our script into it on time. We shared ideas and chose the best ones that worked for the situation we chose. Some skills I gained through this activity were learning how to share ideas in a bigger group. Something I need to get better on is overthinking my ideas. When we were working on the script I would go back and forth on my ideas and waste a lot of time deciding whether or not to do something.

Linear Equations

Example 1:

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because the green line is straight. I can tell from the equation, because all the variables have an exponent of one.

Example 2:

this is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because the blue line is straight. I can tell from the equation, because all the variables have the same exponent of one.

Non-Linear Equations

Example 1:

This is a non-linear equation. I can tell from the graph because the red line is in a circle and not in a straight line. I can tell from the equation, because the variables have an exponent of two.

Example 2:

This is a non -linear equation. I can tell from the graph because the green line is not a straight line, it is curved. I can tell from the equation, because the variable x is to the power of three.

Self Assessment

• I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I used the website Desmos to create graphs for the linear and non-linear equations I chose on teams.

• I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I figured out which equations on teams were linear and which were non-linear.

• I justified my conclusions with evidence when I explained how I could tell each graph and equation was or was non a linear equation.

CPR Reflection

CPR Reflection

In this unit I learned a lot of lessons. I learned how to do proper abdominal thrusts and how to perform CPR. The key take away from this unit was learning how to perform CPR and learning that you should get help as fast as possible when someone is having a heart attack, a stroke, or is choking. This unit connects to the nutritional unit because both units are about keeping your body alive and healthy.

 I work with others to achieve a goal.

I chose this competency because i demonstrated it when my partner I were learning how to perform CPR on the test dolls. We were struggling to perform CPR properly, but we kept trying and trying and eventually did it.

 I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener.

I chose this competency because I demonstrated it when i needed help on how to work the AED. I asked for help from of my peers and was then able to use it.

 I am kind to others, and support others when they need it.

I chose this competency because I demonstrated it when my friend needed help studying for the CPR test. I quizzed her and politely corrected her so she would do well on the test.

 I can identify how my actions affect the community or environment and I can make positive change.

I chose this competency because it is something that I have been demonstrating the entire CPR unit. I recognize learning how to perform CPR could potentially help save someones life.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility: How I manage school-related stress.

– When distractions are getting in the way of my work I take a breather, take time to focus, and move to another place.

– I respectfully advocate for my needs by asking for help, taking a break, and communicating verbally.

– Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include going for runs, Hanging out with my family, and watching movies.

– My support network is helpful to me because they support my decisions, help navigate me, and love me unconditionally.
