Core Competency Self Reflection (Self Regulation)

After watching the clips from the podcast, I came to the conclusion that I am generally more exteroceptive dominant. I believe that I am more exteroceptive because my attention tends to drift toward things outside of my body, such as the noises around me, as opposed to being able to turn my focus inwards. The meditation I believe would be best for my personal growth is interoceptive meditation. This would be the best form of meditation for me because it would allow me to build my ability to focus on internal factors and pay attention to things such as my breathing much more easily over time. During meditation, I think that the most effective breathing pattern for me to do would be cyclic breathing. Since this type of breathing requires a lot of concentration inwards to regulate breathing evenly, it would help me with growing my interoceptive skills. It’s also important to regulate breathing during tests or exams. I know that when I go to take a test I can get very overwhelmed sometimes, and even something as simple as breathing a certain way can help. I prefer box breathing when I get stressed because it really helps me to slow down my breathing, helping me to relax. It can make me refocus, and allow me to be much more level-headed.
