Social Awareness and Responsibility – Musical Theatre
- Which aspects of creating the show did you enjoy the most? Why?
I enjoyed learning the vocals in the choir room, especially with Mrs. Baker. This was a special part of creating the show because it finally felt like the show was coming together. It added so much to the choreography. When all of the harmonies we learned came together, it was so exciting. I feel that my love for singing expanded greatly with Musical Theatre, and I’m so excited for what we might learn next year.
2. Which aspects of creating the show did you not enjoy? Why?
To be honest I found enjoyment in almost all aspects of creating the show, but I found the first few days of learning choreo in September quite stressful. But I definitely found the dancing easier as the year went along because I became more confident.
3. What new skill did you learn during the production?
Dancing! I had only ever done Highland dancing before, but I learned so much more in theatre. Without the Musical Theatre program, I probably would never try dance again, but it was such a special opportunity to do so. I also feel that my singing skills improved too, and I loved singing with a group.
4. If you had the chance to do it over again, is there anything you would do differently?
I would advertise the program better at the beginning of the year, because I feel that not many people at school knew what was going on. The show was promoted well at the end of the semester though. I have already asked some of my friends if they wanted to join theatre, and they are extremely interested, so sometimes word of mouth marketing works well too.
