Positive Personal and Cultural Identity – Core Competency

I demonstrated the positive personal application of this competency when I applied my artistic talents to create a humorous comic for a project involving cultural awareness. I’d guess that art makes up 99% of who I am, which is a significant portion. The two cultures I chose to depict a creation narrative  have inspired my creative growth. The imagination of some of the stories and shows in Japanese culture is what makes my creative mind glow, and it inspires a lot of the artwork and ideas that I may have. With their artwork, deity statues, and associated tales, the Greek civilization inspires me in terms of human anatomy understanding. Since I enjoy learning and do not come from a well-known culture like the Greek, Japanese, or Egyptian, studying and learning about other cultures is an important part of who I am.

Critical Thinking – Curricular Competency

Each group was given a designated early human to analyse in order to determine whether or not they were civilised. Australopithecus, an early hominid found in east Africa, was my group. Prior to this project, it was believed that all early humans lacked intelligence, behaved like stereotypical cavemen, and made no advancements. Yet after doing some investigation, other grops discovered that they were intelligent, communicated clearly, and led stable lives. I don’t know anything about early humanity; all I know are the stereotypes that people have created. I have a new perspective on what was truly happening before the modern era thanks to our research into them and use of our brains to put the piece together. The other participating parties presented strong arguments regarding whether or not we should decide who is considered civilized.
