The age I was when I started to do chores was around ten years old cleaning the door knobs since covid was going around and we had to disinfect anything that could get some bacteria on it. Next, I started to vacuum upstairs where all our rooms are. Once I became 13 I had to start mopping around the house and washing the cars sometimes. Once I had to clean up our mercedes after a long road trip, that cleaning took a few hours since he wanted a deep clean on the car.

My first time going somewhere by myself was walking to school back in grade 5. we moved closer to my elementary school which allowed me to walk a smaller distance than from my old house. After a while I biked from there and back. Once I got into middle school I started just walking since its way easier than bringing my bike. The first time I used transit by myself was back in grade 7. I used to walk up to the bus stop near my house and went to Lougheed station, after that I would take the SkyTrain to Burnaby and work with my dad at his mechanic shop. Last summer break I used to do that each day and went to other places around Lougheed and Brentwood malls.

Ever since my dad opened his own mechanic shop in Burnaby. i was there at least every week or two, especially during the summer breaks trying to make some money working over there. even if he was eating in the break room, I was in the main room taking calls and helping people pay with the orders.

i think if people act the same in Canada the same as how people act in Japan, parents might be less scared letting them go to places outside by themselves. because of the crime rate in these western countries is way higher that Japan, that’s the reason why parents are anxious if there kids get kidnapped or worse. It can even happen to older people, not just young kids.
