I chose Akaei (Manta Ray/Stingray) as my yokai because it still stood up to me with it’s basic appearance. I also believe there’s little-none other Akaeis in the class or in the school, which makes it pretty unique. Akaei are titanic fishes that live in the Pacific Ocean. They spend most of their times at the ocean floor. Every now and then they’d swim to the surface to shake off the collection of sand and rocks on their back. Although Akaei can reach 10-12km in body length, meaning the action of shaking off rocks and sand will cause maelstroms because of the fish’s large mass. The origin, backstory, and description of the Akaei comes from Ehon Hyakumonogatari, a book full with strange tales and yokais, published in 1841. I’d say yokais and western mythical creatures don’t have explicit traits that I can compare for differences. Although I’d say the designs and features of yokais are much more unique rather than western mythical creatures. I don’t believe in any kind of mythical creatures or monsters, but I’m really interested in them. I can’t make opinions proving them real or fake from the discoveries.
