Digital Footprint Paragraph
Understanding digital footprints is super important in today’s digital world. Your digital footprint is the stuff you leave behind online, like tweets, pictures, emails, etc. It’s all the things that have been put online about you, and it’s there forever. So, why should you care about your digital footprint? Well, for starters, if you don’t want your boss or future employers to find out that you didn’t make the best decisions for what you posted online, you should try searching your name on any search engine you are able to think of and see what comes up to know if what’s online about you is positive or negative. Something else that could happen is hackers being able to get into your accounts and steal your private information, which can lead to identity theft. But once you know about your digital footprint, you are able to control what is known about you on the internet. You could change your privacy settings and delete things you don’t want everyone to be able to see. But in general be careful with what you post online and think about how it could affect you and others.
Social/Personal Competency Reflection
My strengths as a digital citizen are that I’m able to remember the possible outcomes of a post before posting, this helps me to remember to check over my posts. It will help me make sure that I will have a positive impact on myself and the people around me, and not a negative. By reporting harmful activity online, it could promote unsafe behaviors. I’m helping people around me and people that could be easily influenced from hurting themselves from participating in dangerous trends online. I know that my digital footprint can have positive and negative consequences. A positive consequence is that I could increase my chances of getting jobs because a possible employer could search my name and find positive information about me online. A negative consequence could be that I posted online without thinking before about the outcome. So, when a possible employer searches my name and is shown a old post that has had a negative impact on me it could harm my chances of being hired.
