Critical thinking

I had to apply critical thinking throughout the fetal pig dissection lab. From copying the teachers cuts onto my own pig to identifying organs, the lab required to analyze and apply knowledge using critical thinking. The lab provided many challenges along the way. Amongst the challenges I encountered were finding the structures we were required to identify. This proved difficult as our fetal pig was not identical to the diagrams. I had to use critical thinking to estimate where structures were and make educated guesses in where to look. This helped my group locate up to 40 organs out of 44. The strategy of going between teacher’s pig, our pig, and the diagrams, helped me locate the necessary organs and be able to transfer our theoretical knowledge to applicable ones.
Communication

Communication was incredibly important for this lab. During the lab we had to listen and respond to the teacher’s demonstration and communicate our ideas to our partners. Since it was a group activity we needed discuss ideas between each other and combine them. This proved to be useful as we needed communication to locate the organs by telling one another what we see and think. In the example, my partner and I communicated with each other and the teacher on where the glotits was. It was difficult and required us to discuss what we think and check in with the teacher.
