Conics Project

I began this project by uploading a picture of myself. The first step was to create the jawline. To achieve an accurate chin, I used a parabola, the easiest and most effective method, as it allowed me to make a sharp yet prominent chin. I then used straight lines to define the rest of the jaw, highlighting my jawline. For the sides of the face, I utilized small straight lines, giving the head a more realistic feature. I chose hyperbolas for the top of the head to create a soft, rounded shape. Using hyperbolas was effective in forming a smooth curve that emphasized my hairline. Additionally, I applied hyperbolas for the inner ears, which contributed to shaping the overall head. For the neck and chin, I used straight lines. Creating the shirt posed a challenge, but I could design it by combining parabolas, hyperbolas, and straight lines. This combination helped me achieve a realistic shape with the appearance of wrinkles. The eyes were crafted using restricted circles. By manipulating the domain and range, I could give my eyes a sleepy yet natural look. My nose was formed with parabolas and straight lines, allowing me to adjust its shape, while the nostrils were made using ellipses, providing a slim yet wide appearance. The hair proved to be the most challenging aspect of the project. However, I successfully applied concepts from previous units to create a sine graph. I manipulated this sine graph to give it a pointed appearance and shifted it to represent my hair accurately. Throughout the project, I employed a variety of shapes, including straight lines, parabolas, hyperbolas, circles, ellipses, and sine graphs.

Goal for Semester 1

Some of the things I plan to do to stay mentally and physically healthy include going to the gym, eating healthy food, and hanging out with my friends. I will plan to go to the gym everyday and focus on eating meals that are organic. On top of that, I will communicate with my friends and have regular hangouts. I want to celebrate my accomplishments such as getting straight A’s so I will plan to use my time wisely and seek help if need. Furthermore, I will work hard inside and outside the classroom.

CLE

I would not say this is my best work however I would say this is something that is quite useful too me. This vision board allows me to see what I want in my life and allows me to create goals to reach my desired life. My biggest take away from this class this the fact that I can be anything I wish. There are plenty of careers and options I can do in order to achieve what I want. Furthermore I learned how to plan and follow through with these goals.

Competencies

I can share my thoughts clearly in an understandable way. At the beginning of this semester it was difficult for me to express my thoughts and too put my thoughts into words. Throughout this semester I have shown great growth and I am able to communicate clearly with my peers and teachers.

Physics 11

Communication and Collaboration

In our physics class, communication and collaboration played integral roles in enhancing our understanding of complex concepts. Through whiteboard work and collaborative labs, we were able to engage in discussions, share diverse perspectives, and collectively tackle challenging problems. The whiteboard sessions provided a platform for us to visualize and articulate our thoughts. This collaborative approach not only strengthened our individual comprehension but also promoted a sense of teamwork and shared learning. In the lab settings, effective communication was crucial for coordinating experiments, analyzing data, and drawing meaningful conclusions. Working together on hands-on projects not only deepened our understanding of physics principles but also perfected our ability to communicate scientific ideas effectively within a group setting. Overall, the combination of whiteboard work and collaborative labs enriched our physics learning experience, emphasizing the importance of communication and collaboration in the pursuit of scientific knowledge.

Titration Lab

Artifact

Curricular Competency

A titration is a technique used to determine the concentration of a substance in a solution. It involves adding a solution of a known concentration (Titrant) to a solution of the substance being analyzed. In lab 20C the titration was a regulated addition of a sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution to a hydrochloric acid ( HCl) solution with an unknown concentration. The purpose of this lab is to titrate the hydrochloric acid and to calculate the molarity. The endpoint of a titration is the point at which the reaction between titrant and analyte is complete. It is when there is just enough titrant added to react completely with the analyte. It is at the point where the moles of acid equals the moles of base which cause a neutralization reaction. The end point is usually indicated by a color change or observable change. In the chase of lab 20C one added a PH indicator phenolphthalein. When the endpoint or equivalence point is reached the solution with the PH indicator should turn pink. The lighter the pink suggest that we have added just enough titrant to react. The darker the pink suggests to much titrant has been added and is in excess. Based off of 4 trials it was determined that the average volume was 14.00mL +/- 1.4%. Also it was found that the molarity of [HCl] was 0.140M. On top of all that the balanced equation of the reaction was NaOH + HCl -> H20 + NaCl.

Core Comptency

I can gather and combine new evidence with what I already know to develop reasoned conclusions, judgments, or plans. Lab work and follow ups offer limited information and require one to solve and find the new evidence. For example, the lab 20C on was given the molarity of NaOH and had to find and use the average volume of NaOH to find the molarity of HCl. I am able to take information presented to me and apply in both in labs and in theoretical work to solve and discover new evidence that can help prove the hypothesis. Another example, is during lab 4D I had to find the mass of the crucible and hydrate before and after the first and second heating. Taking that evidence I am able to form the formula of the hydrate. Based of the formula I was to then find the percentage of water. That new evidence allowed me to create a conclusion of how to find the empirical formula and percentage of water. Overall, I am proficient at being able to gather and combine new evidence with what I already know to develop reasoned conclusions.

Socials 10 midterm assessment

Curricular Competency

I was able to demonstrate and excellent understanding in researching evidence and applying it into my work. A strength of mine is the fact that I am able to dissect evidence and understand the underlying causes. In the cause and consequences, fishbones, and analysis assignments I was able to dissect the text and express the evidence in my own words. Not to mention, I research evidence and used to back up my facts in the residential school unit project.

Core Competency

I can examine evidence from various perspectives to analyze and make well-supported judgments about and interpretations of complex issues. I am able to examine text and analyze the cause and consequences. Furthermore, I am able to make proper ethical judgment’s about complex issues. I was able to examine text in the cause analysis work and understand the scenario from different perspectives. During class discussions and the unit project I was able to give a well thought out and elaborated ethical judgement.

Positive Social Media

Positive Social Media posts

Reflection

During this unit I have quickly realized how much a post can impede your future. Whether it is for an occupation or post secondary you social media can influence what happens. I was able to identify the risks of post negative comment or posts on social media. I have learned that having your posts “private” is beneficial but it can still impact you. What you post will stay online forever. Due to these projects I have become more diligent in what i should post. Before I post I like to think if this post can impede my future. There is many risks to post on social media, however if one has a positive footprint it can help them in the future. Everyone has a digital footprint, and it can be detrimental, or beneficial.

Core Competency

Identify risk and appreciate benefits associated with personal and public digital footprints

During this unit I was to identify the risks of posting and how it can affect one in the future. However, I also learned that having a positive footprint can help you in scenarios. Thus it is important to watch what you post and too think whether or not it will impact you negatively in the future.

-I recognize my value and advocate for my rights. I take responsibility for my choices, my actions, and my achievements.

I can recognize my values and I can stand up for myself. Furthermore, I take responsibilities for my actions whether they have a negative or positive impact. I will take responsibility for my digital footprint no matter the consequences.

-I can gather and combine new evidence with what I already know to develop reasoned conclusions, judgments, or plans.

I can gather evidence and examine it to get a fair logical conclusion. Also, I can take evidence and apply it to everyday life scenarios to make plans. Not to mention I can make proper judgement if i review the evidence presented to me.

My goal is too expand my learning and too get more “tools in the tool belt.” I can make choices that help me meet my wants and needs and increase my feelings of well-being. I take responsibility for my actions. I will make choices that will benefit me towards accomplishing my wants and needs. Furthermore, if i am faced with any consequences I will take responsibility and accept the punishment. I am working on this goal because i believe it will give me a sense of happiness during the journey and when completed. I will do this goal by creating a “SMART” goal and use strategies taught to me.

P.E with Ruzyzci

Physical Education with Dave Ruzyzcki was an excellent semester. He is my favourite teacher. He taught me a lot about how to succeed in life and what trust and integrity. Mr. Ruzycki once talked about the emotional bank, and he showed me that life is not all about taking and it is also about giving back. The things he taught me about relationships will last a lifetime. I truly enjoyed the time in his class and I will continue to use the lessons he taught us in life.

Finical Literacy

Stock Calculations

One invests all the 80,000 into stocks. If the stocks does not decline one will have 131,690. Throughout the 3 year investment 10,000 is being added every year. The average growth percentage is 7.5%. However the average decline is 6.9%

Stocks(No decline 7.5%)
Year 180000x(1.075)= 8600+1000= 96000
Year 296000x(1.07)= 103200+10000=113200
Year 3113200x(1.075)=121690=10000=131690
Total131690
This is the calculations of a full 3 year investment into stocks with no decline.

This is the stock with decline. One can notice that they are 5,000 short due to the 6.9% decline.
Stocks(With decline 6.9%)
Year 180000x(1.075)= 8600+1000= 96000
Year 296,000x(1.07)= 103200+10,000=113,200
Year 3113200x(0.931)=105,389.2+10,000=115389.2
Total115,389.20

This is a Visual representation of the two stocks being compared on a graph. It shows the money lost in the 3 year.

Justification

Investing in stocks is always risky however it has huge upside potential. If the stocks are invested in the correct companies and at the right time one could surpass there 120,000 dollar goal. Even though there is a chance to have a decline of 6.9% it would only happen if there is another economic crisis. Remember there will always be a risk in stocks however its potential tops every other investment strategy.

3 Year G.I.C Calculations

An investment of all 80,000 dollars plus the 30,000 of savings one can meet the goal with no money leftover and no risk.

3 Year GIC (4.2%)
Year 183600
Year 286861.12
Year 390509.28
Total120509.28
When one invests in a 3 year GIC the total of the 3 year is 91293 however one has 30000 dollars in savings so when added on top. It equals to 121293 dollars. That is One thousand dollars over the goal with some money left over. Also there is no risk, and one cannot lose there money.

This is a visual of the stocks compared with the 3 year GIC. As one can see the GIC( Grey line) surpass the 120,000 dollar goal( Red line).

Justification

Doing the 3 year GIC is the safest option. There is no risk, however one cannot withdraw money from the account until the 3 year period is over. If one person want to have the least risk and barely make the goal they can choose the GIC. However if one is more risky and want more money on the side stocks is the way to go. Personally I would go with the stocks because I have the potential to walkout with 10,000 dollars extra. I choose stocks because it gives me extra money. With that extra money I can use it to pay mortgage or to buy appliances for the house. Even though I can walk away with only 115,000 ( below the goal) I would still risk the money for the extra 10,000.

Colaboration

Personally I would rate my ability to work with my group a 4/4 because I was able to explain my ideas and also include other ideas as well. Furthermore I found working with my group helped find the solution for this problem. Everyone in my group had assigned jobs and our group worked in unison. I did use our groups solution with the stocks because I found it had the best outcome even with the risks. I contributed to the group by giving ideas and I was the person with the calculator doing the math. The two other people were writing the ideas down or coming up with them. Overall I feel that I worked well with my group and I would do it again.

Core Competency

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I was able to share my ideas and strategies during this project.

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I was able to take part in the project and do my share of work and help.

I can advocate for myself. This is because I do not care what people think of me and I am not scared of being judged or mocked.

I can find it easy to be part of a group because I can fit in well with anyone. I am very social and I am not afraid to make new friends.

Power Tech Mouse Trap Car Grade 9

What The Project Is About
The mousetrap car project adjective was to have the fastest and farthest car. The point of the car was to make it fast for 15 feet and then see how far it could travel. The project was meant to test your critical thinking skills and your problem solving skills.
DESGINIG: My initial idea was to have a fairly heavy car to help battle the wheels spinning out. I also thought that on the rear axel I could attach a cylinder which acts like a transmission. However the transmission was not able to use its full potential due to the cars weight. Thus I swapped the frame for an alternative frame which was lighter. On the first test with the new frame I encountered that the car was too light for the transmission and the wheels would spin out and lose almost all its energy. Not to mention the fishing line would not release from the ziptie, causing to catch the car and make it go backwards. I then removed metal axles and the makeshift transmission and swapped it with small lighter kebob skewers. I found that the cars axel span for longer in the air and it felt fairly lighter. However I ran into another and that was that not all the wheels were touching the ground and that makes the car lose more energy and swerve to the right. I was able to fix that problem by using red washers. Those red washer helped balance the car out. After that problem was fixed the mousetrap car was ready.
HOW IT WENT: My car traveled 38 feet and made it too 15 feet in 6 seconds. I feel that may car could have went farther. I found during the first try it kept swerving right, so I countered that by aiming the car more to the left. Thee car would eventually turn left yet it would take a longer time for it to turn. Personally I am disappointed in how it overall went and I know next time what to fix and what to keep.
