Choir Core Competency Reflection

Core Competency Reflection

  1.  I show that I value feedback from my teacher by showing the changes/advice that she has given to us. Whenever my choir teacher tells us to mark something in our music, I make sure to mark every change with a pencil. Additionally, if she wants us to add movement like in “Son de la Vida” and “Dance!” I’m not the best dancer, but I try my best to match her provided dance moves. I always try to keep the advice she gives us in mind, and if I forget I ask my peers that are in the same group (tenor) as me.
  2.  My strategies for learning and practicing specific vocal techniques include listening to those around me and matching their tone/volume. Compared to my peers, I do not have much singing experience as this is my first year in choir, so I always listen to those experienced singers around me. By doing this, whenever I feel that my tone is going off I start listening, and match the tone of those around me. This technique has helped me as sometimes I cannot tell if I am singing the right note or not, so by hearing those around me I can harmonize better with the choir.
  3. I have demonstrated resilience during intense choir rehearsals and public performances by taking on unexpected tasks. During the Spring Sing, when we were on stage our choir teacher unexpectedly told the tenors to sing along with the basses for the beginning of “Vuelie”. I was a little worried as I was scared that I would hit the note wrong, or not be in time with the basses. Since we’ve heard the basses so much during rehearsals though, the tenors and I were successfully able to support the basses during this intro.
