Here are a list of my equations, f(x) = (x-0) +3 (red), f(x) = (x-0)-2(blue), f(x) = (x-10) + 1(green), f(x) = (x+9)+1(orange), f(x) = 2(x-18)+2(purple), f(x) = 0.5(x-6)+3 (black).
For red, the parabola is shifted up by 3 as the ‘k’ in the equation is the variable that shifts the parabola up vertically. For blue, the parabola is shifted down by two as the ‘k’ in the equation is the variable that shifts the parabola vertically. For green, the parabola is shifted by 10 to the right as the variable ‘h’ shifts the parabola horizontally. For orange, the parabola is shifted 9 to the left as the variable ‘h’ shifts the parabola horizontally. For purple, the parabola is stretched by 2 by variable ‘a’. For black, the parabola is widened by variable ‘a’ by 0.5.
Communication Core Competency Reflection
I can understand and share information in a clear, organized way as I demonstrated the information I learned by placing it onto a graph to show my understanding. The sentences I wrote with my graph show the depth of my learning on parabolas as I explained each concept and how it correlates to the graph and what part of the graph had been manipulated. I conveyed my findings regarding parabolas and understanding which variable manipulates which part of the graph and have conveyed my findings to the teacher.
