In this lab, I showed personal and social responsibility, by focusing on collaboration and teamwork. me and my lab partner made sure to communicate clearly and check in with each other during every step of the experiment. We split the tasks fairly—one of us measured the chemicals while the other wrote down what we saw. This made the experiment faster and more organized. We also helped each other out by double-checking our work and sharing ideas if something didn’t look right, like when we needed to redo parts of the lab, due to the color of our solutions being different from everyone else. By listening to each other and respecting each other’s ideas, we were able to get good results and have a positive lab experience.
BC First Peoples 12
Throughout the B.C. First Peoples 12 course, my understanding and view of First Nations people and their cultures have changed a lot. Before this course, I didn’t know much about the many different First Nations groups and I usually depended on the known stereotypes about the First Nations people. Now, I see how each group, like the Haida, Coast Salish, and Nuu-chah-nulth, has its own unique languages, traditions, and histories. Learning about these differences has made me appreciate the rich cultural diversity within B.C.
One topic that really stood out to me was traditional ecological knowledge (TEK). Seeing how First Nations people have managed their environment in ways that have been protecting the environment for centuries was eye-opening. For example, their sustainable fishing practices and the Nuu-chah-nulth’s forest management show a deep respect for nature. This has made me think more about how we can use these traditional methods today to protect our environment,
Another important part of the course was learning about the historical injustices faced by First Nations people, like the residential school system and the potlatch ban. Hearing the stories of survivors and seeing the strength of their communities made me realize the importance of reconciliation and addressing these past wrongs. It has also made me want to be an ally and support justice for First Nations people.
This course also helped me understand the core competency of Social Awareness and Responsibility competency. Learning about the experiences of First Nations people increased my empathy and understanding of different perspectives. Talking about issues like land rights and cultural appropriation taught me the importance of listening to and sharing supporting small communities. This has encouraged me to get more involved in social justice movements and acts.
One project that helped with my learning was creating art inspired by First Nations. We studied totem poles, masks, and paintings, learning about their cultural meanings. Making my own piece of art helped me connect with First Nations culture and deepened my respect for their heritage.
In conclusion, the B.C. First Peoples 12 course has greatly changed my perspective on First Nations people and cultures. It has expanded my knowledge, and made me appreciate cultural diversity. The course also improved my understanding of how important it is to take responsibility for supporting others.
Life Saving Measures
I learned about the importance of CPR and how it helps with saving lives. I learnd that CPR is a set of actions that one must take when witnessing someone not breathing. The set of actions includes pushing on their chest and giving them breaths until the ambulance arrives. Furtheremore, I learned about substance abuse and the means knowing about drugs and alcohol and how they can hurt people. This helped rase awareness by helping us with identifying those affcted and be kind to those who are struggling and know how to help them get better. I also learned about Naloxhome, and how important it is because it’s a medicine that can stop someone from dying if they take too many drugs like heroin or painkillers. Learning about it, helped us with knowing how to use it to save lives. Thinking about these things, it’s clear how important they are for everyone.
Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection
As a high school student, I can analyze my own beliefs and consider views that do not fit with them. This means I’m open to thinking about ideas that might be different from what I already believe. For example, if I have strong opinions about a certain topic, like climate change or politics, I can still listen to other people’s perspectives even if they don’t match mine. By doing this, I can learn more about the world around me and make more informed decisions. It’s important to be open-minded and willing to consider different points of view, even if they challenge what I already think.
English 11
My Artifact
My Learning
This assignment helped me with organizing my work, which was something that I used to always struggle with. I am a very messy writer, and often have trouble with finding the pieces that I am looking for. However, with this assignment, I was able to organize my work by making a table and then inserting all the notes and information I have on there. This helped me with finding the pieces of information that I needed, without having to go and look for them.
Core Competency Reflection]
An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is the play “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare. In our English class, we’ve explored this classic play. I’ve worked hard to understand the language, themes, and characters in “Macbeth.” It’s been a journey to figure out the old-style English, but as I’ve diddged my self deeper in the world of Shakespeare, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the his style storytelling and the deep messages within his plays.
When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I take a break to help calm myself or create space in my mind to think. I might go for a walk, listen to my favorite music, or just sit quietly for a few minutes. Taking a break is like hitting a reset button for my brain. It helps me relax and clears away the mental clutter. Going outside and feeling the fresh air on my face, or finding a quiet spot to sit, gives my mind a chance to breathe.
Physics 11 Core Competency Reflection
I am able to work with others to achieve a goal. I have shown this attribute throughout my lab work, as all of the labs that I have done in the class, are completed with the help of a partner. During the lab I make sure that me and my partner are on equal shares, in terms of conducting and contributing to the completion of the lab. We make sure of this by assigning each other different roles, like having one person observe the data, and having the other conduct the experiment. Additionally, Me and my partner make sure to always communicate openly and listen to each other to make sure that when we run into problems, we collaboratively resolve the matter. This ensures that we complete the lab to the best of our ability, and helps us with achieving the results we hope for collaboratively.

Communication Core Competency
Critical and Reflective Thinking
Leadership Quality I Have: I’m a good listener. For instance, during group projects, I make sure everyone has a chance to share their ideas and concerns. This helpes the team feel heard and make it easier for us to work together.
Leadership Skill I Have: I’m an organized person. when me and my classmates are asked to do a project, I creat a plan, set deadlines, and assign tasks, to make sure we get the work done on time. This organization helps us stay on track and finish the project successfully.
Leadership Quality I Want to Develop: I want to become more patient. Sometimes, when things get tough and i feel pressured, I can feel a bit stressed. I’d like to learn how to stay calm and patient, so I can guide my team through challenges without getting frustrated.
Leadership Skill I Want to Develop: I want to improve my problem-solving skills. If conflicts rise in my team, I want to be better at finding solutions that everyone can agree on. Developing this skill will help us work smoothly together, even when we face difficulties, and go through obstacles.
I can encourage others to share their voice and value diverse perspectives.
I try to create an environment where everyone feels okay speaking up. If someone is a bit quieter, I make an effort to ask them what they think because everyone’s opinion matters. I also appreciate hearing from people with different backgrounds or experiences because it adds variety to our ideas. It’s like having a bunch of puzzle pieces – each one is unique, but when we put them together, we get a complete picture. When we work together and consider different viewpoints, we can come up with better solutions because everyone brings something special to the group. So, I value other peoples perspectives and voices, as i think having diverse perspectives is a key part of making our teamwork better and more effective.

Working Collaboratively With Others
During this semester, I showed collaboration by working efficiently with my group, this included figuring out the group work questions together, assigning each other roles and turns in solving the questions, and finally, making sure that our group fully understood the topic, so that we could all have an opinion or share on the answer. I also showed collaboration when I shared my laptop with my classmate in order for us to get the Desmos assignment done, and work out how we could change the equations so that we could receive the most points possible.
Managing Time Effectively
During this semester, I had to find ways to manage my time effectively as I was getting lots of pressure with my upcoming tests and assignments in the class and I didn’t have much time to study. Therefore, I decided to manage my time efficiently and try my hardest not to get distracted when I was doing my work so that I can make sure that I always stayed focused and on task, and so I can be able to finish and understand as fast and as efficiently as I can.
Strategically Preparing For Assessments
When preparing for the assessments, I needed to make sure that I fully understood the topics I was studying and that I was able to answer any given question easily. Therefore, I needed to be strategic, and to be so, I made sure that I always reviewed all of the units required for the test, and by going back to the group work questions, and testing myself by solving the questions. Another strategy that I used was watching videos on the topic or unit we had the test on, I did this as a finale just to confirm all my learning and it was also my technique for reviewing everything I had studied.
Advice for Future Students
Consistently review the lessons and units every time you finish one, even if your test isn’t anytime soon. This strategy will help keep the information you learned and will help you with confirming your learning so that you won’t forget the lessons anymore.
French 10 Skits
When it came time to present our French skit to the class, I knew that collaboration was going to be key to our success. We had spent weeks rehearsing and refining our work, but we also wanted to make sure that everyone in the group had an equal amount of speaking to do. So, we made sure to divide our work into 3 equal roles, with each person having the same amount of talking to do. We also practiced together several times, giving each other feedback and adjusting our roles as needed. On the day of the presentation, we collaborated together flawlessly, each of us contributing our own parts of the skit and doing a little bit of acting as well, to make sure that the skit is as entertaining and engaging as possible. In the end, we were proud of our collaboration and the overall score that we got on the presentation
My Parabola
The equation on the top is my own equation, and the equation on the bottom is the parent function equation. These equations are quite up different as they differ in both the “h”, the “a”, and the “k” values, which all play a significant role in determining how a parabola looks like when graphed. The “k” or -2 in my equation is responsible for how far up or down my parabola is vertically shifted, and that’s why you will see that my parabola, is shifted 2 points downwards from the vertex of the parent function. The “h” or 7 in my equation also plays an essential role as it determines how far left or right the parabola is horizontally shifted, and that’s why you can see on the graph that my parabola is shifted 7 points to the left from the vertex of the parent’s function parabola, as if “h” is negative, the parabola shifts to the right and if it’s positive it shifts to the left, in my case, the “h” was negative and that’s why my parabola was shifted to the left. Finally, the “a” or the “-2′ in front of the brackets, determines how wide/narrow the parabola will stretch and whether it will open either downwards or upwards, and that’s why you could tell that my parabola opens downwards and its curve is much narrower than the parent function parabola, this is due to the “a” or -2 on my equation, being further from 0 than how far the value of “a” or 1 on the parent function, is closer to 0.
Self-Assessment
1. Give an example from this assignment where you represented the same mathematical idea in multiple ways?
While completing this assignment, I represented the same mathematical idea when demonstrating what my given equation would look like without the “a,” “h,” and “k” values separately, in order to evaluate the differences and argue how each of these values affects the parabola in significant ways.
2. Give an example from this assignment where you used mathematical vocabulary to demonstrate your understanding.
During this assignment, I was able to use mathematical vocabulary to demonstrate my understanding when explaining the significance and relations of each “a,” “h,” and “k” value with the parabola and how it changes the way a parabola looks graphed, as when explaining I used vocabulary like vertical shift, horizontal shift, parent function, vertex, stretch, …etc.
3. Give an example from this assignment where you used formatting to share the information in a clear and organized way?
I was able to use formatting to share my information in a clear organized way by using demos so I could have a clear picture of my parabola. additionally, I also used different colours for my parabola and the parent function parabola, to make it clear enough to know which one is mine and which one is the parent function’s. Finally, I also showed formatting by bolding the headings and changing their sizes, so that they could look neat and so that it looks clear enough for the reader to know that I’ve started a new topic.
