ME Card

My Reflection

This creative project helped me demonstrate the ‘Personal and Social’ part of the core competencies. It made me reflect on my own identity and think deeply about my passions, values, skills and future goals. The thought process of this project was quite difficult but by the end, I’m now able to identify these categories. This project specifically strengthened my ‘Personal Awareness and Responsibility.’ Some preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include staying organized with my notes app on my phone. Whether it’s making a To-Do list or just planning out an outfit for the next day, it makes my everyday life a bit easier.

Cupcake Print AD Reflection

Core Competencies

In this assignment, I demonstrated Collaboration, “I work with others to achieve a goal.” I worked with my peers and giving/receiving feedback, my group’s communication was great. We all discussed on ideas and if we didn’t agree on one thing, we would make arrangements for the satisfaction of everybody in the group. Me and my group took equal parts on this print advertisement and we got results that definitely impresses.

Another competency I demonstrated was Social Awareness and Responsibility, “I find it easy to be apart of a group.” In fact, I enjoy groupwork more than solo work. Especially this group, each of my peers was easy-going and it made this assignment a lot easier to complete.

Lastly, Critical and Reflective Thinking, “I give, receive, and act on feedback to progress in my goals.” As I’ve previously stated, I gave and received equal amount of feedback during this group work. Lots of the ideas given into the print advertisement was easy because we all had same opinions on stuff.

Desmos Marbleslides: Lines

Core Competency Reflection

I can identify my strengths and limits, find internal motivation, and act on opportunities for self-growth.

With this interactive website, I saw that I am good at estimating numbers with my knowledge that I already had. I was able to compare all numbers and find the successful answer. One of my limits when doing this activity was trying to perfect the lines. I would get super close and it would take some time to collect all the stars.

Is Violence Justified During a Revolution?

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project

With the assist of AI, I was able to make my research process faster since Perplexity was able to provide me with many crucial information and even gave the sources they used which made my citations easier on my behalf.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI?

I can ensure that my work is my own creation because I put the information into my own format and worded the paragraphs to fit into my vocabulary rather than copy and pasting (plagarizing.) The only use of AI was used for researching purpose only.

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?

After listening to my partner’s side of the argument and my research, I stand in the middle of my argument because there’s some concepts where I do think that violence is justified and there’s parts where I don’t think so.

Core Competency Reflection

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I am still able to give honest feedback on their ideas and provide support for my partner. I try to initiate conversations with them and get to know the person better to break the uncomfortable tension.

One of the ways I can ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to use proper communication. Speaking our ideas and sharing feedbacks to one another to see if we both are coming to a consensus. I do think that communication is key in partnerships/groups.

Social Studies Term 1 Reflection

Core Competencies Reflection

For this project, I demonstrated Communication and Social skills. I can find it easy to be in a group. In this assignment, I was able to work with my peer and listen to their ideas while also providing feedback. With my partner, this project was able to go smoothly for me as we both put in equal amount of work. I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I am able to give honest opinions and if there is a disagreement, I can come to a consensus with my partner. At the end, we successfully completed the assignment and I was very satisfied with the results.

Contract Law Storyboard Reflection

Within this storyboard assignment, one of the core competencies I’ve demonstrated was Communication. “I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.” In this assignment, I was able to gather and share information correctly while also keeping the storyboard organized and simple. Keeping the text in the text bubbles straightforward and the images matching the caption below. Another core competency I was able to demonstrate was Creative Thinking. “I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.” I demonstrated this skill when the teacher gave an example to the class and from that, I was able to build on my ideas. I also shared ideas with my peers around me and compared their idea to mine to get a sense of what everyone else’s thinking was like. The last competency I was able to show in this assignment was Personal Awareness and Responsibilty. “I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behaviour.” I persevered with many challeges with this new website, Canva. Since Canva is not something I’m too familiar with, I was quite confused and lost at the beginning but I was able to get a clear understanding and successfully complete the storyboard calm and collected.

Reviewing Unit 1 and 2: Integers & Fraction

Summary:

In Unit 1, I learned how square roots and real numbers. After this unit, I got a clear understanding of how to find the square root of a number, exponents, and the concept of rational and irrational numbers. I also learned the Heron’s method for solving square roots and a little bit of the Pythagorean Theorem. An example would be I learned whether an answer would be positive or negative depending on where the negative symbol is located in an exponent question, outside of bracket or inside of bracket. In Unit 2, I learned prime factorization, finding the lowest common multiple, word problems and reviewed fractions. I gained an understanding with finding the lowest common multiple with an easy method.

The part of unit 2 that I am most comfortable with was definetely multipying, dividing, subtracting, and adding fractions because I’ve been reviewing fractions since middle school so I do have a decent understanding with the concept already.

The most difficult part of unit 2 for me was the word problems since there’s no formula or method to solve one, you just have to understand the questions and solve it.

I usually learn new material best when I get a lot of practice worksheets/questions to check my understanding.

“I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior.” This statement connects with me because if I need to learn a concept I didn’t clearly understand in class, I will take responsibility with my free time and learn it so I am prepared for the next day of class.

My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

Some words that describe my year are sociable, complicated but lively. I’m very glad that my classes this year gave me an oppurtunity to socialize with more people and build connections with them. Though this year was full of fun core memories with friends, it was oddly complicated. It was complicated getting used to the new environment and making new friends in every class. This year, I enjoyed the exciting Centennial assemblies. Everyone has a good spirit during assemblies and I like it when students from all grades can compete with one another and end it with a good laugh.

I chose Scribbr as my useful educational website because this website gives easy free citation accessability for everyone. I’ve depended on that website in many of my projects that need citations. Not only does it do citing for you, it gives a free plagarism checker and proofreading/editing. It’s a simple website with basic instructions, easy for all ages to understand.

A Useful Educational Video

In this short video, a lady tells a poem she’s heard called “LET THEM” by Cassie Phillips.

I connected with this with my school year because in highschool, I started to learn more about the people I’ve already had and even more about the type of people in this new environment. While some people are the kindest, many can be judgemental, rude, and immature with their words and actions. This poem says it’s how life goes and let people that love you, love you and let people who wants to spread negativity find their own positivity in life without you.

A Useful Educational Image

This image is a positive reminder on how to take care of yourself. I strongly agree with everything stated in this image. Keeping up with grades and your social life, it’s important to remember to look after yourself. I think if people normalized this self-care behaviour in life, life could be easier for many people.

An Inspirational Quote

“You can’t have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time.” – Charles F. Kettering

To summarize the quote, it says that you can’t expect a better day to come if you only dwell on the past. You need to move on in life.

This quote connected with me because I wish I was spending more time enjoying grade 9 instead of being scared to do certain things. I know that next year I will need to work even harder and the work will be more complicated. I feel like if I had a more positive mindset, I would’ve been a bit less stressed out this school year.

My Artifact: Dropped Shoulder Seam Sweater

This term, one of my major projects was this sweater. Since this was one of my first clothing pieces I’ve have ever successfully made, it was confusing in some areas. Such as, connecting the sleeves and torso piece together, there is a specific type of way I’m supposed to pin. Finding the correct way was quite difficult. I had many misunderstandings and trials and errors during the making of this sweater. Thankfully, I had the help of my peers in my table group and my teacher who was always willing to help. Before Winter Break, everyone got to share one project to a few classmates. I was able to share my most proud parts and the flaws, though I made a couple of mistakes, most of my peers said they liked my results. I really enjoyed communicating with some classmates I’ve never spoken to before, I would say this was an enjoyable activity.
