Core Competency Reflection

  1. I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I demonstrated this by splitting the work evenly between my partner and I and completing them. (Collaborating)

2. I demonstrate inclusive behaviour. I showed this when I constantly asked my partner her thoughts on what we could do to improve our project. I asked if she had any ideas or suggestions on what we could or add on ir change. (social awareness and responsibility)

3. I can reflect on my thinking. I ended up taking a lot of time on my share when we were putting the project together because I kept going back to rewrite things after re-reading multiple times and try to change the way I write or what I should or shouldn’t add. (critical and reflective thinking)

I can tell the difference between facts and opinions. When doing research I stumbled upon many different answers to some of the same questions. There are many sites that share multiples peoples’ opinions and answers to a specific question. I needed an answer but I couldn’t tell what the real one was becaude of people’s different opinions. That made me want to dig more and find out what the truth is.(Critical & Reflective thinking)

To Improve:

I find it easy to be part if a group (Social awareness and responsibility)

I actually find it difficult to be in a group because there are times when there are disagreements and bad teamwork between partners. I find it very hard when there is poor teamwork in a group because it can affect how long it will take to finish and affect everyone’s marks even if it’s just because one person has their own opinion an refuses to work together and disagrees with something, or only one person does work and the others are slacking off.

I don’t like when this happens but i am also bad at standing up and trying to fix it. I want to be able to demonstrate great teamwork when I am in a group. My goal is to hear everyones ideas and speak up when I have something to add on or suggest how someone else’s idea can be improved if I know that it can be. I want to talk freely and comfortably with the people in my group so that we can get work done on time and without any issues.

The Summoning: The Movie

My Movie

Plot, Character, Setting & Mood

· It was easy to figure out what the protagonist looked like because half of her appearance was shown on the cover on the book. On page 7 and 8 it explained more about how she

· I tried to narrow down the most important events and points in the story where things suddenly change and makes you view things totally different. Like an unexpected twist to the story or when the protagonist has a new motivation, goal, or desire.

· I figured out the setting by reading through the story and taking note when the setting would change. The setting didn’t end up changing much and the majority of the story was based in Lyle House. The setting is significant to the story that is where all the characters meet, secrets are discovered, huge events that impact the story take place, and where conflicts and development happen.

· Mood is a feeling that can make a difference to the story or plot. Depending on the mood, the way you view things about the story can be affected. I decided to use a sound with kind of creepy, unpredictable and unsettling sound as the background music for my movie because that is what I felt while reading this book. Some things that happened were unpredictable.

Core Competency Reflection

  1. When I need to boost my mood of re-focus I take a break. Because often, when I can’t focus it’s because I am exhausted or feel drained and have no motivation to keep doing whatever I am doing. Taking a break gives me some time to think about what I can do to make myself feel better and how to make myself determined to do better so I can get something done.

2. A skill that I have developed to make my creative activities better is note taking. Since I started notetaking I became more organized and detailed when it comes to work. Taking notes and planning ahead gives me more time to change or develop my ideas so that when the time comes, I don’t waste time doing something extra because I changed my mind about something or I didn’t like the outcome of the first try.

3. IN discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend my understanding by asking questions so that I can make suggestions and add ideas to the topic.

Carnival Table, Flyer, and Paragraph Reflection

Core Competencies

Creative Thinking: I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas.

When I was making my flyer, I often found myself deleting my work and adding on new things. If I see something I don’t like about my project I start over or build on that idea that I had to improve how the final product would look like.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility: I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself.

I think that my flyer shows that I enjoyed making it. I am proud of the outcome and I think that the effort I put into my flyer shows.

Communication; Collaborating: I can recognize different point of view and can disagree respectfully.

Since my friends are sitting next to me and we’re doing the same assignment, naturally we help each other if we notice something is off or if one of us has a question. When my fiend pointed out something that I should do, I thought the idea was nice but I declined because I thought that it wouldn’t fir with my flyer’s design. I gave my honest opinion and told her that it would fit her flyer.

Edublog Reflection: Math 9 2022 Semester 1: Positive Learner Identity

Strength: Remembering Information and Directions

I believe a strength of mine is remembering directions and information on how to solve or read a problem. Even though it takes me a while and I ask a lot of questions , in the end I can understand how to do it and be able to teach and help out someone else.

A time where I used this strength was I was really stuck on a problem while studying for a math test (Unit #2 I think) that I knew would be on the next week. I was really stressed because I missed almost the whole unit because I was at home, and sick. When I came to school I asked a classmate how to solve the problem I was stuck on and I did start to understand it more. I did answer the problem but I had done it incorrectly. I asked Mr. Hansen to make sure I was doing it right, just to make sure I don’t mess anything up on the test. The way my classmate taught me had resulted in the same answer but the steps that I learned from them was different from Mr. Hansen’s. I asked Mr. Hansen to help me out so he could give me the steps and directions so I can understand better. And so, when I went home that day I did the practice booklet that the class was assigned to do, to help me practice and solve problems to be prepared for the test. When the day of the test came I was nervous because I knew I missed a lot of the unit. I found myself stuck on the same kind of problem and I was panicking. Then I remembered what Mr. Hansen taught me and the steps and directions he gave me. Then I started panicking less and completed the rest of the test pretty smoothly. When the marks back I realized I had done much better than I thought I would have.

Core Competency Reflection

“I can identify ways which my strengths can help me meet challenges, and how my challenges can be opportunities for growth.”

I do think that that I can grow by being faced with difficult challenges. If I fail once, then I can recognize the mistake I made and and how I can improve and find ways to succeed. To do that, I will figure out my weaknesses, work on and fix any flaws so that I can turn them into my strengths to succeed in the future.

Data and Solutions

3 year 4.2% non-redeemable GIC

  1. 80,000 x 1.042 = 83360
  2. 83,360 x 1.042 = 86,861.12
  3. 86,861.12 x 1.042= 90,509.29
  4. 3rd year of GIC =90,509.29
  5. 3 years total savings = 30,000 (10,000 + 10,000 + 10,000)
  6. 90,509.29 + 30,000 = 120,509.29
    Grand Total = 120,509.29

Justification:

I chose a 3-year (4.2% non-redeemable GIC) because it’s a much safer option. If I had chosen the 1-year GIC then I would not be able to reach my goal of 120,000. If I had chosen stocks, then it would have been much more of a risk to reach my goal because the stock market is not predictable and a one-year GIC wouldn’t get me to my goal.

Collaboration and Contribution:

(I can Statement Prompt) I missed a lot of work for this assignment but for the few days that I was there I did participate. It was kind of confusing but once we were shown a visual It was easier to understand. I don’t think that this is a strong suit in math for me but it’s nice to know about because it can maybe help me in the future.

Core Competency Reflection:

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by asking questions. It doesn’t make sense if I am in a situation where I’m confused, and I just sit there and do nothing about it. I will probably raise my hand and ask a question.

When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I take a break to help calm myself or create space in my mind to help ideas eventually come to me. I usually listen to music because I don’t have to get up and do anything. I can just close my eyes until I have calmed down and, even if I want to continue listening while I’m doing my work, I can.

Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include… limiting my screen time and time on social media. If I notice that I have been on my phone to much then I try to put it down because I know I may have something better to-do. Even if I don’t have anything else to do I can use that time to find something else to do. (ex:help my mom out or clean the house)

Collaboration Prompt:

I show others that I truly value their contributions by hearing and listening to their ideas. Sometimes in group work there are disagreements and arguments because of the fact that one person’s ideas are being ignored and there efforts are going to waste. I like to let people say all their ideas so that all of our contribution is shown and we can present as a group and the work is equal between everyone.

Brochure Reflection

What is the Topic of your brochure?

The character I chose to do my brochure of is Venom. I used to really like Spiderman and watched the movies all the time. Venom is Spiderman’s most “well known/most famous” enemy, when I saw Venom for the first time, I thought he was pretty cool. Olivia and I decided to do Spiderman and Venom so that we would have kind of “matching” brochures.

What Core Competencies did I use?

I used creative thinking to develop my ideas and how I was going to design my brochure.

And I also used critical thinking to question how and what I could do to improve my brochure and make it better.

Animate E-Card Reflection

Scene from my e-card.

What is the theme/message of your E-Card?

The theme of my e-card is a Christmas.

I wanted to make an animation that shows what a kid (most of them) looks forward to most on Christmas morning, which is presents.

What core competencies did you demonstrate with the E-Card Assignment?

I used creative thinking to develop my ideas and expanded them which made my e-card into what it is right now. (The finished product)

I also used critical thinking to develop ideas on how to make each scene and movement function. I took my time to analyze and question how and what I can do to make my animation look better/function.

Creating a Positive and Safe Digital Footprint

Made By: WordArt and Microsoft Word

Your Digital footprint is a trace of data that can show your own personal activities and whatever you do online. It is left there forever but can either benefit or ruin you in a way. (Ex. Texts, posting videos or photos of yourself, Buying something online… These things can be on there forever, so be mindful of what you put on the internet about yourselves and others.)

Internet Safety is an especially important aspect of keeping a clean, safe, and secure digital footprint. The internet can benefit you in many ways (ex. Entertainment, online business, and shopping, searching for information, etc..) but it can also be extremely unsafe, and you could be exploited to hackers, stalkers, and weirdos (pedophiles…). Your future employers often look up things about you and find personal things that may be able to taint your reputation. It is important to be cautious and observant when posting things or sending messages, photos, snaps, etc. To your friends, family, anyone around you.

Some examples of Unsafe Activities that can potentially harm you and your future…

  • Public social media accounts (Anyone can see what you post. (Your boss, friends, family, strangers, stalkers, kidnappers, etc.)
  • Posting photos of yourself on social media (Again, anyone can see you)
  • Putting your home address, school, age, grade in your profiles for apps.
  • Clicking on random links (can be nudity, gore, inappropriate photos/videos, etc.)
  • Telling people passwords to your social media accounts, phone, anything that has private info about you.

All these can be a risk to getting your address, location, school, age, passwords, leaked.

To be safe and prevent getting attacked/exploited by stalkers, pedophiles, hackers, or to not be at risk of being exposed to something you did not want to be revealed, here are some things you can do:

  • Delete apps or reduce the amount of activity on some of them.
  • Make sure to use different passwords for every account you make because it will make It difficult for hackers to hack into all your social media accounts.
  • Do not save or send photos that can be controversial or photos of other people. (It will only make it worse for when/if you were to be involved in some kind of rumor or controversy. People can make up things about you, so it is not good to have enemies or bad relationships with others over something that is personal about other people (nude photos, text messages, etc.)
  • Change your privacy settings (To friends only) and/or private your account(s).
  • NEVER click on any suspicious websites or links
  • Do not share your location with anyone unless it is your family or closest friends.
  • Try not to make online friends (They may not be who they say they are)

Personal/Social Competency Reflection

I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including my private life being leaked/open to the world, so I like to adjust my private settings so that the only people that can see what I post are the people that I trust the most.

My online support network (ex. Teachers’ TEAMS pages, Tech Leadership Edublog, Career Centre website, Library website, Centennial school website, etc.) are helpful to me because they make it easy for me to ask questions. I find this very helpful to me because I often get distracted or just don’t know what to do so having a place where I can ask questions online, not face to face in real life, makes it easier for me as I am not very good at communicating with others.

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include… Limiting my screen time and staying away from controversial topics online. I think that since I have been spending less time on my phone and from social media, my stress has reduced. I feel like my head is clear and I do not have the urge to look at my phone for notifications (Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram.. Ect.) as much anymore.
