Communication Core Competency
I demonstrated this core competency by communicating with my partner during this lab. I can take on roles and responsibilities, in a group by doing my share. My partner and I communicated before the lab to prepare because we had circumstances that could affect our progress in the lab. During this lab, both my partner and I had to take care of RealCare babies for 3 days which overlapped with our lab. We talked over what we would do under different kinds of situations that could affect our learning due to the babies and came up with a solution by agreeing to have one person focus on the dissection while the other stepped out of the room to take care of the babies if they cried, and explain what each person missed when they came back. We would switch each time the baby cried so we both got to experience the lab. Although we were a little behind at some point, we made up for it by coming into flex and cent times so catch up. In the end we both got to learn and enjoy the lab despite our circumstances.
During the labelling of the fetal pigs body parts, we agreed that on the first day one of us would look for where the parts are and the other would pin the parts. The next day we switched roles. In the past, communication skills was something that I needed to build, and I have been working on it and now I realise how important it is because without communication with my partner, I would have struggled on how to move forward during this lab.
