Core Competency Reflection

I think my experiences such as doing assignment that related to the Earth and environment influenced my hobbies like how to treat or take care of the land and environment because every day, we learn something new that we did not know like this action might affect our environment and what consequences does it have.

My strengths as a student are to contribute to my community and classroom, through the activities because I work well with the other Students and asking questions.

Because I know about Earth science, I can have a negative impact on the environment, I make sure that I let people know about some problems and action that has consequences on Earth and encourage them to prevent to help to do not reduce any problems.

Transforming Parabolas

Graph B: Opens up and is wider: y= 1/6 (x-4) ^2+8, Blue Graph, Vertex:( 4, 8)

Graph C: Opens down and is more narrow: y= -1(x-4) ^2, Orange Graph, Vertex:( 4, 0)

Graph D: Shifted up: y=1/2(x-10) ^2+10, Green Graph, Vertex:(10, 10)

Graph E: Shifted down: y= -1/4(x+8) ^2+1, Red Graph, Vertex:(-8, 1)

So, in this chapter you need to know some important things that are necessary. We are working on what’s letters a, h, k and vertex then put them all together.

So, as you can see, I wrote my equation and graph it and I going to talk about vertex first because it’s important. So, vertex is the point that the graph is going to start that’s why it is important. In this chapter we have a formula that shows like this” y=a (x-h) ^2+k” and letter h is our x in vertex and k is our y in vertex. By the way, we need to be careful when we plug in h because as you can see in formula our h is negative, so we know that if in our equation h is negative our x was positive and if our h were positive that means our x was negative. For example, in my black graph I don’t have h or k in my equation then it means that values of the vertex (x, y) are zero. so, let’s go to the letters.

Letter a in the equation show us that the graph is upward or downward based on (-) and (+), in addition, it tells us that our graph is wider or narrow, if our a is fraction it means our graph is going to be wider and if it’s number that it means our graph is going to be narrow. For example, in my red graph as you can see letter a is fraction then our graph looks wider and also has negative then our graph is downward. The next letter is x, letter x is x-intercept. X will show us that where our graph located. If it’s negative it means it located to the left and if it’s positive it means it located to the right, for instance, in my orange graph my x is -4 and as I said earlier -4 it means that x is 4, so then our graph will locate in the right. The next one is our letter k that is y in our graph. Letter k will tell us that our graph is at bottom or at the top of the x-intercept, if our k is negative, it means our graph is at the bottom and if it’s positive our graph is at the top, for example, in green graph my k is +10 it means that my graph is at the top of the x-intercept.

  1. How did you represent the same mathematical idea in multiple ways in this assignment? I did respond to my assignments in three ways include: Graphing, Equation, and Written response.
  2. State some of the relevant mathematical vocabulary words you used to demonstrate your understanding. The vocabulary words that I used are vertex, y and x, axis of symmetry, range, and x-intercept.
  3. How did you use formatting to share your information in a clear and organized way? I used my knowledge and stuff that I learned like equations, graphs, and vocabulary words to respond for formatting my information as clear as it possible and with a good organize way.

Reviewing Chapter 1: Factoring and Radical

The easiest and comfortable part of Chapter 1 that I am sure I am good at is Factoring, solve by factoring, factoring by decomposition, GCF, Radical Expressions, and knowing the meaning of each word. I am confident because I had a lot of group works in last year and also in Math 11.

The most difficult part of the chapter 1 was the last part because in Math 11 we learned some new and different version of solving and also, we had to know the versions very well to know how to solve the question and at the end of chapter we had a lot of questions that solved in different ways.

I learned new material best when I listen to the teacher lesson and have focus on the class, in addition, participate in group work and work on workbook after each lesson, also have some practices at home, and ask question when you get steak with.

I have a plane to be ready for the unit test by working on workbook and have more practice and doing different question and make sure that I learn everything completely and work more on my problems, in addition, work on the units that I believe is hard for me.

I have already completed all the assigned practice problems, as well as redoing them all.

I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior” This statement for everyone have a different definition. In my opinion this statement is the challenges that I am taking, this semester is so challenging for me because I have all the important courses that is necessarily for my goal for instance Math, this course is crucial for me, and it has so many challenges and tricks. It needs knowledge and focus and patient that all of them related to my goal. Math is useful and helpful course that I took and teach me so many things that I can use them to handle my problems, it actually helps everyone obtain their goal and solve their problems.

Consequences of using Alcohol

I learned a lot about the consequences of alcohol. But the worst thing that really effected to me was that after a while when you continue to drink alcohol, your face turns to unusual yellow hue, and the skin may wrinkle. this can lead to the onset of skin diseases and even cause the whites of your eyes to turn yellow as you can see in the picture on the top. This one is one of the consequences on your healthy, in addition, it can effects on your family, on your relationship with people because in drunk mode you don’t have any control on yourself, and it makes you to do or say something stupid in social media that make people to be not satisfied with you or they’ll not feeling comfortable with you, so my suggestion for you is that never try alcohol and prevent yourself of using this because it is not going to worth it.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

  • Brain: Alcohol slows down the chemicals and pathways your brain uses to control your body, altering mood, slowing down reflexes and affecting balance. It also can contribute to learning, memory, and sleep problems.
  • Heart: Alcohol increases your heart rate and expands your blood vessels, making more blood flow to the skin (which causes you to feel warm), however, this heat passes out through the skin, causing body temperature to fall after it has risen.
  • Digestive: Alcohol is first broken down in the stomach, promoting an increase in digestive juices. Alcohol also irritates the small intestine and colon where it is further broken down and absorbed, and it also can affect the normal speed that food moves through them, which may result in abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhea.
  • Kidney: Alcohol dries out the body, which can affect the kidneys and the body’s ability to regulate fluid and electrolytes. It also disrupts hormones that affect kidney function.
  • Liver: Alcohol—most of it, in fact—is metabolized in the liver, which filters circulating blood and removes and destroys toxic substances, including alcohol. The liver can handle a certain amount of alcohol, but as a person continues to drink, it can become stressed to the point of causing permanent damage.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements of Alcohol based on what people say about it on Internet, also I can see it in the present that what happened to people when they drink alcohol and how it makes people to become what and listen to the people’s experiment.

My experience of doing this project is if everyone in the group gets some parts of the project and be responsible for that and try their best to make it perfectly your group project would be amazing, in addition, the most important thing is we need to communicate and talk about the project like what part of the project is important or if your teammate needs help, that’s our job to help and give suggestion. Organize the time, for example, have enough time to practice, have time to do the research and be ready to present it on time.

My Story

PART ONE:

When Behrman was a little boy, he always wanted to help people, and make them happy. He was someone that really care about his family and friend, people who is important to him, he was very attentive to them and showing a lot of love and affection. He learned from his family to be kind, treat well with people, be helpful, respectful and be not selfish, in addition, he did everything that made satisfied his family. In the past he had such bad experience of passed away his friend, one of his best friends that he was really care about. In the past a lot of different things happened that made Behrman to become an adult person who had a serious look to life and try to protect his family and friends.

THE STORY:

Behrman: (Phone ringing) Hi, I’m Behrman who I’m talking with?

Alex: Hi Behrman, it’s me Alex. I’m just wanting to let you know that your best friend Ali is in hospital right now and I want to go and visit him because he is not very good.

Behrman: Whaaaaat!!!!! Why is he in the hospital? what’s wrong with him?

Alex: I don’t have time right now to explain it to you, but we can meet ech other in hospital and then I’ll tell you the whole story.

Behrman: Okay, okay I’m coming just sent me the address bye.

Alex: Okay bye.

(After 30 min, when Alex and Behrman meet each other in hospital)

Behrman: Hey Alex, where is Ali? what is going on here? (Deep breathing)

Alex: Behrman, calm down everything will be all right, okay? Listen to me, today Ali wanted to go somewhere with bikes. In the road he had an accident with the car and right now he is in ICU because he has internal bleeding. The doctor said we stop bleeding, but the surgery is still in progress, and we can’t tell you anything until something known. Do not hit a bad breakthrough, and may your hope be in God, okay?

Behrman: Why did you tell me all of this right now?

Alex: (Suddenly said) Because they told me right now. Now this is not important, think about who currently is in ICU. Let’s be with Ali’s family right now.

Behrman: Okay.

(After 2 hours, waiting for the docter)

Docter: The situation is still the same as before, and there has been no change. We will be transferring the patient to his room in a few minutes, and afterward, you can meet the patient.

Sophia: Docter, will my son be, okay?

Docter: We try our best to help to your son, believe in god.

Sophia: Thanks.

(Tomorrow when Ali regains consciousness)

Sophia: Good morning my son, how are you? I was awake the whole night for you to see that your wake up.

Ali: Thank you so much mother but I’m okay, tell me who else is here?

Sophia: Your father went to buy something for me, your friend Alex went to the washroom, but your close friend Behrman is waiting for you, he stands outside be hide this door, do you want me to call him?

Ali: Yes please

(Sophia opened the door and called Behrman)

Behrman: Hey Ali, how you feeling?

Ali: I am okay bro don’t worry. Mother, can you please leave two of us alone, I want to talk in private with Behrman.

Sophia: Okay my son.

Ali: Thanks Mother, please locked the door and don’t let anyone to come in. (Sophia move her head up and down) Behrman I want to tell you something, but you have to promise me to not reveal it because I don’t want that my family realize that okay? Keep it secret. (Behrman moved his head to accepted) Good, this is my last day of my life that I am alive tomorrow I am dead.

Behrman: Don’t say that Ali you’ll be all right believe in God, just take rest to get better.

Ali: I am not kidding Behrman; I am talking to you very seriously so please listen to me. One of my dreams is to have a picture of best view in the world and it has something that make you peace. That is the only way that I can save myself. Can you do me a favor?

Behrman: Of course. What do you want? Just tell me.

Ali: I want you to find out that picture for me, this the last thing that I want.

Behrman: Okay my friend. (He toured all the city’s paintings but couldn’t find what Ali wanted from him. At the end of the day when the weather turned to dark, and it becomes close to night he finally finds something that in his opinion were good for what Ali wants. When he was on the road, he stocks with traffic, and in the traffic, someone called to him) Hello?

Alex: (Crying) Behrman we lost Ali, we lost him, we lost our brother, he passed away couple minutes ago (Crying).

I decided Behrman because in the story of “The Last Leaf”, I got a complete understand of what he had before in his life, he even might become an artist just because his friend that passed away when he was younger. He was not able to draw the picture for his friend and that issue made him feel guilty, in addition, he doesn’t want to lose his friend again and I think that’s why he lost his life to just save his best friend.

Understanding the learning processes

This semester in ELL – intermediate. One thing that helped me to improve my language was vocabulary.Every week teacher gave me one chapter of vocabulary and I started to work on it. Every day I tried to understanding and how is the good pronunciation, in addition I learned how to use it in the sentence and what is meaning in the sentence. I learned that vocabulary in the sentence is what, like is it a noun , verb , adjective or adverb. When I completed the chapter I worked with my teacher to get my problem in the chapter. When we done it. At last , we asked a question together and we should use the vocabulary in the sentence and speak English. Every week I had one test on Friday ,although it was super hard for me at the first time but I did it.

My English communication skills have improved a lot this semester. They have improved because I can writing Paragraph easier, in addition they helped to talk with someone and understanding what they said and also when I reading a book I understanding very well. I am happy about myself to reading this helpful book.

a) What was something you learned that you didn’t know or consider before? 

I didn’t know how to give someone CPR or how to use an AED to deliver a shock. I didn’t have the necessary information to perform CPR.

For example, how many times should I perform chest compression.

b) What is a key takeaway from the Theory or Practical CPR unit? 

Help keep blood flowing throughout the body. How to do CPR or how to use AED.

c)How does this unit connect to the nutrition unit learned previously?  

This unit showed us how to eat healthy food and keep our bodies safe from potentially dangerous foods. For example, too much sugar, fast food, etc. One major cause for performing CPR is unhealthy nutrition. We have learned that not only food causes heart attacks, diseases, and failure, but it also depends on your daily routine. As if sleep and proper body exercise.

Core Competency Reflection

I can describe how learning about CPR relates to my life, my grandmother had a problem heart and she had a heart attack before and I know how to save her.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I play Basketball or talk to my friend and go outside.

One lesson that stimulated my thinking about the importance of CPR was how to do CPR will save a dying human. I didn’t know that CPR is a way that something happened inside the heart that can save a person.
