CPR Reflection

a. What are the 4 R’s of the program we used in our CPR & AED unit?

The 4 R’s of the CPR & AED program are Risk, which means understanding factors that increase the chances of a heart emergency; Recognize, learning to identify signs like chest pain or collapse; React, knowing how to respond quickly by calling for help and starting CPR or using an AED; and Resuscitate, performing chest compressions and breaths to keep blood and oxygen flowing until help arrives.

b. Why do you think it’s important to learn about Risk, Recognize, React and Resuscitate and how this might help you moving forward in life?

Learning about Risk, Recognize, React, and Resuscitate is important to me because it helps me stay calm and confident in emergencies. I might save a life one day by knowing what to do. Understanding risks also encourages me to develop healthy habits to prevent heart problems. These skills aren’t just useful in school; they make me feel more responsible and prepared to help my community and family.

Core Competency Reflection

Communication Prompt:
One of the ways I ensure my partner is clear on what we are supposed to do is to explain each step out loud and demonstrate it before they try. For example, when practicing chest compressions, I showed them the correct hand placement and rhythm to make sure they felt confident.

Thinking Prompt:
One thing I learned that I didn’t know about the body and CPR is how critical chest compressions are in keeping blood flowing to the brain and organs during cardiac arrest. I didn’t realize how much strength and focus it takes to keep the right pace and depth.

Personal and Social Prompt:
In this unit, I am proud that I accomplished learning how to use an AED by staying focused and practicing with my group. It made me feel more prepared and capable of helping in a real-life emergency.
