Over the year I have grown in a number of areas in music including my confidence in performing, my ability to play different types of music and my ability work as a group on a song. I have become more confident in my playing ability which has led me to be less nervous about performing in front of an audience. This has also helped be able to keep the tempo of a song better and follow the guidance of our band teacher. I have enjoyed playing all different types of music over the year in both concert, jazz band and the small ensemble. I have learned that different types of music require some different skills in playing. The different types of music have also given me more perspective of the various types of music we can play and allowed me to hear how various types of music sound when we play them. Working in the small ensemble allowed me to work as a group on a song. I was able to use some of my group project skills to ensure that everyone in our small ensemble was ready for the performance and that any weak areas in our song were practiced more. It was also sometimes a challenge to keep everyone focused on practicing our song. As well, I gained more experience in seeing how it was important that everyone in the band worked together and stayed together through the playing of the song, so that it sounded good.
Overall, I believe that I have grown a lot in my confidence, ability to play different types of music and to participate as a group member of the various bands that I am involved in. I have found this challenge over the year to be rewarding and enjoyed playing in concert and jazz band.
