My Parabola

My Equation

Parent Function

y = x^2

Desmos graph (Red: Mine / Blue: Parent function)

My vertex (-5,-7)

Parent function vertex (0,0)

Paragraph

The significance of a, explains if the parabola is either wider or narrower and also the direction of which way the parabola will open. When a is negative, the parabola opens down. But when the a is positive, the parabola opens up. Since the a of my parabola is positive, my parabola opened up just like like the parent function. Also, a positive value of a closer to zero makes a wider parabola. The significance of h, explains whether the parabola will shift right or left. According to the equation formula, it says (x-h), meaning that if h is positive, your parabola will shift to the right and when it’s negative your parabola will shift to the left. Since the h of my parabola is (x+5), my parabola shifted 5 times to the left. Last but not least, the significance of k tells whether the parabola shifts up or down. When the k is positive the parabola shifts up and when the k is negative the parabola shifts down. The K of my parabola was -7 so my parabola shifted -7 times downwards.

Self assessment

  1. I wrote down my equation and family function. Then I put it on desmos to compare both graphs.

2. I used vertex, parabola, negative, positive, family function to show my understanding.

3. I used desmos because it’s more accurate than my hand drawn graph and it’s easier to do.

Space in the News

Summary

The Hubble Space Telescope has caught an image of a galaxy called NGC 4394, which appears hazy by the residence of gas and dust. The galaxy is 120 million light years away from Earth and is home to several star forming regions. The galaxy contains some 400 billion stars, and most are old. The image reals about the details of the galaxy’s form, including bright stars. Hubble’s observations will help astronauts understand the processes that drive star formation in galaxies like NGC 4394. Hubble gazes describes the observations made by the Hubble Space Telescope, which is a powerful tool that tracks Earth and captures images of distant galaxies and stars.

Curricular Competency Reflection

A. I had to research when writing Summary.

B. Google

C. Copy and paste links.

D. Everything went well except for few questions.

Core Competency Reflection

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I go outside and play sports. When I go outside and do outdoor activities, it gets rid of my stress.

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is (chemistry, physics or biology) worksheets than projects or labs, because worksheets have problem solving. I like problem solving with formulas than doing lab sheets or projects.

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by giving them my opinions. In this way, I know if people has same opinion as me.

Positive Learner Identity

Even though I didn’t do any work in class, I managed to finish all the assignments/projects on time.

I did the most work in academy/home instead of working in class. My project helped me on research about Canadian hero.

Core Competency Reflection

I improved my communication skill throughout the class.I can give my answers/thoughts in class.

Meal Planning Assignment

Problem

The problem is that there are left over food.

Solution

Grady: Teen 1 Monday

Kristian: Parent B Tuesday

Kristian: Parent B Wednesday

Andy: Parent A Thursday

Everyone: Teen 1 Friday

Justification

I think our plan is going to work well because, we put the time and meals carefully so we don’t get a lot of leftovers.

Collaboration Reflection

§ Describe all the ways your group communicated and shared information with each other.

We were having a conversation who is going to do Teen or parent on Monday and Friday. At the end, we chose the roles and dates.

§ Describe all the ways your group used technology. Describe situations where technology was helpful, and if applicable, when it made your work more difficult.

My group were using technologies to do the work and to put the pictures and links.

§ Describe in detail how tasks were distributed in your group.

Each person fills one part.

§ What specific tasks did you complete? When I look at your group’s solution, where can I see evidence of your contribution?
