The Naloxone presentation was informative and educational. Naloxone is a medicine that reverses an opioid overdose. Before this presentation I was aware of Naloxone and the opioid crisis but had never learned how to use a kit. The presenters passed around their kits and showed a video about how to use it incase someone is overdosing. In the CPR presentation we were taught how to do CPR on dummies and how to use an AED if one is available. Both presentations had hands on learning and it is important to know how to apply these skills in case of an emergency. Naloxone kits are easily accessible to anyone and can be picked up at your local pharmacy. If you go and ask for one it is free and they do not ask any questions.
Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection
I can analyze my own beliefs and consider views that do not fit with them.
I am able to understand my own views about harm reduction and take opposing views into consideration. I am able to understand why there is negative stigma around drug use and harm reduction but I know that it is an important part of keeping drug users safe. People who use drugs are humans too and we should be doing everything we can do save their lives.
