Harajuku fashion offers people a unique way to express themselves. I particularly like how they can interpret different bright colours into their outfits in a creative and colourful way. Considering how the weather here is always dull, I don’t think these styles will be popular in Canada. Gyaru styles, especially lolita kei, are appealing to me. I like the cutesy aspect of it and the contrast of the light colours in lolita fashion. Recently, a hand gesture in the gyaru community has caught an internet wide popularity, letting others do an upside-down peace sign whenever taking photos. I really like that in Lolita fashion, you can also incorporate other colours into the mix, not just pastels. Fashion is really important to me. I don’t like to repeat outfits, and that allows me to mix different pieces together. One app that really influences my fashion is Pinterest. I wouldn’t say I have a main fashion style, so Pinterest helps me try to achieve a certain look I’m going for that day. Clothing and fashion is one way I like to compliment other people, and it also shows how we can connect with one another, through our spendings
Throughout this course, I’ve used my work ethic to quickly and effectively finish my work. I am always using the best of my ability during volunteering, so not only I but everyone around me can also stay on task. My work ethic also ties in with my time management. I always prepare weeks ahead asking family if we have anything important so I know what days I’ll be free.
At the end of this course, I want to work on mentorship. I’m still a new student of leadership even though I’m in grade 10. I want to learn a bit more before I can call myself a real mentor.
I can work with others to achieve a goal…
I’ve taken the initiative in many school volunteer opportunities. We all wanted to have fun while also perfecting a professional look. I can achieve many goals by communicating with my peers and creating new fond friendships. For myself to assist my peers, I can always offer help whenever needed. I may not be the best at something but everything in life is a learning opportunity.
Personally speaking, I predict Japan is unique with its creative styles of sandwiches because they want to interpret everyone’s different tastes and preferences. I think Japan’s cuisine is also very aesthetically pleasing, if they had the sandwiches we have here in Canada, it would look drastically out of place. Compared to Japan we have very basic styles of sandwiches. Such as the basic ham with whatever vegetables, or wraps. I wouldn’t say this meal is creative but it’s something people would find disgusting in Canada, which is Isaw or barbequed chicken intestine. It’s a famous dish in Philippines. It doesn’t seem too far off from regular grilled meat so maybe it’ll taste just as similar? After reading all the different types of sandwiches in Japan, I think I’d just want to try the basic strawberry and whipped cream shokupan. It just seems like an easier version to make cake! If Anpanman offered me a piece of him as a present, I’d gladly take it. He may be dirty from all the fighting he’s done, but I’d do anything for some fluffy bread!
This year i joined the volleyball team. I was really paranoid that i wouldn’t make the team because i saw the other players. Thankfully i made it on because i made new friends and connected with old ones!
2. I made many new friends and found out who I wanted to spend my next high school years with. I was able to find who made me happy and many memories for just this grade 9 year!
3. I made it onto the badminton team. Badminton was a sport I wouldn’t consider myself good at so when the coach asked me to try out i was super nervous. I’ve learnt many new skills and i’m super exited for the next season!
Areas to Improve
Goals
Action plans
Improve my public speaking skills
I’ll learn how to go out of my way and make new friends. I’ll try my best in the next year to raise my hand more and express my thoughts.
Practice for sports
ill ask some of my friends to help me practice for sports such as volleyball, track, and badminton hoping ill make it in the team. I was going to join some clubs and go for drop-ins to practice with other people.
aim for higher grades
As the school year is about to end i was a little disappointed in my grades. I think i could to much better but Grade 9 was the year to ease into things so i hope in the next years I’ll be able to lift my studying skills higher.
The hunger games project is a presentation that allows us to show our creativity in a way of persuasion. It is a visual project that can be in the form of a brochure, power point, or a poster. This was assigned to us to show our ways of advertising a make believe project to our peers.
it’s important to remember because it gives you a base in who your trying to persuade. It gives the viewer a brief description for who you’re trying to sell it to, and helps them imagine they’re in the moment too.
One form of persuasion that I think is the most important is to have is logical appeal. I picked logical appeal because I only argue through facts. Some way to surely persuade me is to have true facts that I cannot rebut against. Logical appeal is when you have a product that is surely beneficial to whoever you’re selling it to.
Eye appeal is important because it gives the viewer an image in their mind and something they’d enjoy to look at. Personally I can get really bored when only listening to whoever is speaking, a video or image keeps me engaged.
Core Competency Reflection
One strategy or activity that stimulated my imagination on this project was…
having the freedom to showcase our creativity. In my project I added animation on an app called “FlipaClip” because I love drawing! I’m not so good at public speaking so I added a voiceover as if it’s an actual commercial.
I respectfully advocated for my needs on this project by…
spending all the free time I had to work on the project. I was able to complete the project quickly and even allowed my teacher to look through it and tell me what I can fix. I was able to present the project with ease and I was super proud with how it turned out.
This is how I selected images and words to create impact for my planned audience:
I created my whole project, from the logo to all the perks. I selected my images from the voiceover to make it connect more. The rest of my images were all created by me!
I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is…
I wanted to do this whole entire project by myself to push myself out there. Another reason I also wanted to present by myself was to get some extra marks for being brave and going almost first. I can ask teachers and peers for reviews to help me see what I got wrong.
I used personal/ social learning to create this dish. I was able to use collaboration because we got together very well during this lab asking questions along the way. This lab allowed us to choose our own egg, we figured if we were going to make scrambled egg it would be more flavourful and unique. All of us conjointly wanted to bring our personal ingredients from home to make it to our liking. We all had tons of fun and even with small mistakes we made the best of it and fixed it up right away. One thing id do differently next time is expand our cooking. I think we wanted to keep it safe and Do scrambled eggs. Next time we should try and expand our creative thinking and try new ways to cook eggs.
Explain how you figured out what your Avatar would look like.
Throughout the story the author gave some little hints about what ally looks like.
How did you choose the plot points?
Considering I already finished the book, I made the plot points the titles each chapter.
Explain how you figured out the setting in your story. Why is the setting significant to the story?
When figuring the setting I chose parts in the middle because it contained the most action, and intensity for the viewer. the setting is significant because that’s what brings the reader or in this situation the viewer drilled in.
Explain what the word mood means and how/why you picked the song that you picked?
The mood is pretty uplifting watching ally learn how to be comfortable with school and with her classmates. I picked that song because it wasn’t so down and gives off a calm sound.
Core Competency Reflection
Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are…
I was able to learn how to create a little movie and designs using PowerPoint. if call myself a creative person so being able to express my ideas for an assignment is always exiting.
When I need to boost my mood or re-focus,
If I am feeling stressed having a brain break is always soothing. I ask to go to the washroom and take my time, but once I’m back ill be as focused as ever.
I appreciate feedback on… and prefer it comes in the form of…
During assignments I like to ask my classmates or people around me to see if I’m doing right or not. its always helpful when the teachers are able to critique our work so we can have the best of grades. I like m feedback to be straightforward no sugarcoating I use it as motivation and help.
I used an iPad to study. I used the notes app to write down the different stroke orders or the different alphabets. I felt it was more convenient so I was able to switch from apps to help me out.
In Japanese, learning a new language is always difficult. I tried my best with assignments and tests always studying beforehand to make sure I don’t forget it the day of the test, but with major setback I think I could improve on my productivity. When having friends as your classmates sometimes it could be a little distracting. I appreciate feedback on assignments and prefer it comes in form of little notes instead of a check or an x. Some short/long term goals for myself include spending more time studying and trying to remember it longer if possible my plan to achieve this is to find some little ways in my daily life to always go back and remember it for years on. When faced with setbacks I always turn to music or my peers as moral support to advance the development of my ideas. Throughout the year I’ll try to learn even more about the Japanese language. Using the cites yomujp etc to help me prepare for the next school year. It’s also very helpful to watch anime so I could try to translate it myself. If I could travel back in time I would like to study sign language. I think sign language is something we should all try to learn so we’d be able to communicate with others who can’t communicate verbally. Some advice I’d give is that doing it constantly is a huge help. Being able to have a class for Japanese was an extra step into learning the language, but if your not able to get the classes you need studying and doing it constantly is a huge step.
When I was having struggles with the projects, I was able to calm myself and reconnect by taking breaks. Breaks could mean anything to everyone but for me that consisted of listening to music or talking with my peers.
