Core Competency Reflection

I can identify and describe my qualities. In this project, I was able to show my personal qualities by thinking about what makes me unique. One of the main things I focused on was being artistic. I demonstrated this by creating a drawing of myself that included different elements representing who I am. I didn’t just rely on the art alone, I also wrote about what each part of the drawing meant, so others could understand the story behind it. I did not include the writing part above, but I think a lot of the meaning is visually represented.

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and in myself. I’m really proud of how this project turned out. It felt good to create something that represents who I am, and I enjoyed the making it from start to finish. Seeing the final drawing made me feel proud, because it looked good, and because it reflected me in a personal way. The sense of accomplishment and joy came from knowing I put effort into something meaningful.

I can get ideas when I pursue my interest. Because I enjoy drawing, it made sense for me to do this project in a way that involved art. Choosing something that interests me helped me get more creative with the process. As soon as I started thinking about it visually, I came up with lots of different ideas and directions I could take. Drawing is something that inspires me, so it really helped my creativity flow.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. While I came up with some of my own ideas for this project, I also built on the idea of others. We had the option to either create a digital avatar or draw one, and I chose to draw mine. One of my classmates made a cool avatar that had some features I really liked, so I took a few of those ideas and added my own twist to them. It was a mix of original thinking and building on someone else’s creativity.
