Learning the Scientific Method: Self Assessment

My Golf Ball Tower
My Egg Dropper

Curricular Response

While working on my paper tower and egg dropper I learned how to problem solve and find new ways to reach a goal. I encountered many problems when I was working on my paper tower, but one was how my tower would cave in. Due to the height of my tower it couldn’t support the weight of the golf ball, so I added more support to my base. Overcoming problem in my structure helped me learn to problem solve and test different possibilities.

Core Competency Self Assessment and Creative Thinking

When trying new things, I expect setbacks and failure and use them to develop my ideas. An example of this from the Scientific Method labs would be while making my golf ball tower, using a three leg design for the base made the tower unstable and difficult to stand. Instead, I went back and tested my hypothesis to create a more stable base by attaching all the legs to one point, so it created a more stable base. Experiencing these set backs and challenges made my golf tower the lab I’m most proud of.
