CPR Reflection

A) I learned how to apply an AED to help save a life. By using a shock from the AED, it can help restart the heart’s beating and get it back into rhythm.

B) A key takeaway from the practical CPR test would be to call for help, even if you believe you are certified and trained it is still better if others are aware of the situation and find help.
C) This unit connects to the nutrition unit because people can help prevent heart attacks and strokes before they even happen, with healthy eating.

Core Competency Reflections

In this unit, I am proud that I accomplished my CPR certification by learning the steps on how to save a life and passing this test.

One lesson that stimulated my thinking about the importance of CPR was hearing all the people in others’ family and seeing how many people have been affected.

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by sharing my ideas and introducing new ways of thinking to others’.

Science Reflection

Core Competency 1: Communication (Self-Reflection)

Reflecting on my communication skills during the biofuels presentation, I recognize the importance of clarity and engagement. I aimed to convey complex scientific information in a way that everyone in the audience could understand. I used visual aids effectively, including diagrams and charts, to enhance the overall comprehension of biofuels and their significance. Encouraging questions and interactions helped create a more dynamic and inclusive presentation environment.

One aspect I believe I excelled in was adapting my language to the audience’s level of scientific understanding. I made an effort to strike a balance between technical terms and accessible explanations, ensuring that everyone could grasp the key concepts. However, upon reflection, I realize there might be areas where I could have further improved clarity or adjusted my communication style to better connect with certain audience members.

In future presentations, I aim to continue refining my communication skills, paying close attention to audience feedback and adjusting my approach accordingly. This self-awareness will be valuable in tailoring my communication style for diverse audiences and making science more accessible to a broader range of people.

Core Competency 2: Critical Thinking (Self-Reflection)

Throughout the biofuels presentation, critical thinking played a pivotal role in exploring the multifaceted nature of biofuel production and utilization. I encouraged the audience to consider both the positive and negative aspects of biofuels, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject.

I was particularly adept at highlighting the limitations and challenges associated with biofuels, promoting a thoughtful consideration of the broader implications. By acknowledging potential drawbacks, such as competition for agricultural land and sustainability concerns, I aimed to engage the audience in a more nuanced discussion.

Looking forward, I recognize the ongoing importance of critical thinking in my scientific endeavors. I plan to continue exploring the complexities of biofuels and other scientific topics, encouraging myself and others to question assumptions, analyze information critically, and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the subjects at hand. This reflective approach will be instrumental in my growth as a communicator and critical thinker in the field of science.
