To improve retention of math lessons, I’ll start by reviewing each day’s lesson for a few minutes after class. I’ll set aside specific times during the week to go over past material to stay on top of everything and avoid cramming. For unit tests, I’ll create a study schedule, breaking down the material into manageable chunks and practicing regularly with problems related to each topic. Additionally, I’ll make sure to actively recall what I’ve learned to make sure I’m retaining the information. Leading up to the June exam, I’ll stay consistent with daily reviews and incorporate active learning techniques such as teaching the material to others to deepen my understanding. By following this plan, I’ll be better prepared for the unit tests and the final exam. ❁

Semester Reflection

Social Studies 10: Reflection

This semester, I completed an independent inquiry project about the reasons why individuals are willing to sacrifice their lives for their country. The project explored many motivations such as patriotism, duty, and the sense of unity within military organizations like the U.S. Marine Corps. The most interesting part of my project was exploring how deep emotional connections to one’s country, like patriotism, drive individuals to make extreme sacrifices. I also focused on the role of military unity, particularly through the example of the Montford Point Marines during WWII, as an important factor in motivating people to risk their lives. The project also looked at how these motivations are influenced by cultural expectations and societal pressures.I gathered information by using a variety of sources, including articles, books, and academic studies. One of the best pieces of evidence I used was a study from ScienceDaily, which discussed how identity fusion, or the emotional bond soldiers feel with their group, often leads to extreme acts of self-sacrifice. This helped explain why soldiers, like the Montford Point Marines, were willing to risk their lives for the greater good of their nation. This topic matters today because it helps us understand the motivations behind the sacrifices made by military personnel, especially as war and international conflicts continue to impact societies globally. As younger generations move toward peace and diplomacy, understanding the strong foundations of sacrifice in defense of one’s country can create empathy and more informed conversations about how we approach conflict and the values that guide military service in modern times.

Core Competency Reflection

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions, as demonstrated in my… ≪ °❈° ≫

analysis of why individuals sacrifice their lives for their country. I used historical examples like the Montford Point Marines and research from ScienceDaily to show how patriotism and emotional bonds influence these decisions, allowing me to write conclusions about the deep motivations behind such sacrifices.

I can examine and evaluate to improve my own work; evidence of that is…

how I took time to reflect on feedback and strengthen my analysis of cultural pressures. For instance, I incorporated research on identity fusion to better explain the psychological bonds that drive self-sacrifice, enhancing the overall depth and clarity of my argument.

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is

when my teacher suggested focusing on why people are willing to die for their country. I took this idea and developed it further by exploring various factors such as patriotism, duty, and ideological beliefs, using both historical examples and research to understand the deeper motivations behind such sacrifices.

My learning of CPR

What was something you learned that you didn’t know or consider before?

CPR Reflection:

ೃ⁀➷ One thing that stands out is the importance of proper hand placement and compression depth during CPR. It’s important to push firmly enough (approximately 2 inches deep) and at the right rate (100-120 compressions per minute), despite the widely held belief that chest compressions are only beneficial when performed properly. This guarantees that important organs, including the heart and brain, receive enough oxygen and blood flow. I may not have realized at the time how accurate the approach must be in order to have a significant impact in an emergency.

What is a key takeaway?

ೃ⁀➷ The importance of responding immediately when someone experiences cardiac arrest is among the most crucial concepts I learned during my CPR unit. The probability of survival and recovery increases with the speed at which CPR is performed. The ability to do compressions technically is important, but so is the ability to remain calm and confident under pressure. You can potentially save a life in an emergency if you have received CPR training.

How does this unit connect to the nutrition unit learned previously?

ೃ⁀➷ The nutrition unit and the CPR unit are related to overall wellness and health. Maintaining cardiovascular health is crucial for preventing heart-related problems that could result in cardiac arrest. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats, for instance, can help control blood pressure and cholesterol. Understanding how important healthy eating is can help us make better lifestyle decisions that lower our risk of heart disease, which may lessen the need for CPR.

Core competency reflection:

Examples of where I communicated clearly and purposefully can be seen in the CPR unit. Clear communication was crucial throughout the theoretical and practical sessions to make sure I knew the proper protocols and could give the appropriate orders in an emergency. As I practiced CPR, I made careful to communicate clearly with my peers, emphasizing the significance of keeping the proper compression depth and pattern.

One area of CPR in which I’d like to spend more time learning is how to perform CPR on infants and babies. Although I am confident in my abilities to administer CPR on adults, I am aware that newborns’ delicate size and physiology necessitate the use of different approaches. To make sure I can give the best care possible, I want to learn more about the proper hand positioning, compression depth, and breath delivery technique.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I set aside some time for a little activity that gives me energy, such as deep breathing techniques, a fast walk, or listening to my favourite music. I find that these times help me relax, de-stress, and return to work with a fresh feeling of purpose and motivation.

Reflection Question- Is violence justified during revolution/protests?

A) how did the use of AI assist you in developing this project?

It enhances my ability to provide reliable information along with associated websites.Given that I did not have to spend hours looking up information on the subject at hand, it also saved me a ton of time.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than a product of AI?

Everything that I write is still entirely original, even though AI helps me out. AI is a tool that helps me search information and receive responses, however I add to and rephrase everything. Therefore, even though AI is a great help, everything you receive and see from me is all original.

C) did you agree with the position you had to argue? why or why not?

Writing on why violence does not end conflicts was required of me. The same goes for myself and for violence. I agree that finding nonviolent ways to use force in order to voice our opinions and influence change is crucial during a revolution or protest. The chance for positive change relies among peaceful means, such as speech, peaceful protests, and awareness raising. It comes down to defending what we believe while respecting other people’s rights and personal space.

Core Competency Reflection

When I work with people I don’t know well, I make an effort to be incredibly approachable and open. I strive to be very friendly and I always have a wide smile. Along with listening to their thoughts and opinions, I also don’t hesitate to share my own. It is all about developing  communication and trust. I always make sure to use evidence to support my conclusions and judgments when I have to make them. Making decisions based on evidence allows me to make better, more logical choices. It’s a really useful skill to have, particularly when there are several options or points of view to consider.

Caraval

✧ ˚ · . ≪ °❈° ≫ ✧ ˚ · .

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ Plot, Character, Setting and mood.
In Caraval, the plot follows Scarlett and Tella, two sisters who leave their violent father and join the magical game known as Caraval. Caraval is set on a mystical island that is full of enchanted performances and mysteries. As Scarlett navigates the game to find her lost sister while battling delusions and betrayals, the mood is tense and amusing.

Explain how you figured out what avatar would look like.
In Caraval, the book's descriptions reveal the characters' physical appearances to the reader. Stephanie Garber, the author, does an amazing job. She will talk about their physical characteristics, including their eye and hair colours as well as their unique clothing and accessories.

How did you choose the plot points?
After reading and evaluating the book, I identified the plot points. I searched for the most fascinating and important scenes in the narrative, the ones that caught my attention. I also took the book's general themes, character development, and plot twists into account.

Explain how you figured out the setting in your story.
Stephanie Garber has an amazing talent of describing the atmosphere in Caraval that draws you in immediately. She creates the impression that you are standing in the middle of everything with her vivid and detailed descriptions. She truly has the ability to take you to these magical locations, whether it's the surreal and mysterious island known as Isla de los Sueños or the colourful tents and performers that line the streets of Caraval. For this reason, the setting in Caraval is significant. The setting for the story isn't a typical ordinary area. In reality, it's really significant and affects everything that happens.

Explain what the word mood means and how/why you picked the song that you picked?
I've decided on Melanie Martinez's song Carousel. Caraval's aura of mystery and magic appears in the song's unique, charming tone. It's exactly like you're in a strange game or a distorted carnival. The topics in Caraval and the lyrics to the book Carousel also have some intriguing similarities. They discuss being trapped in a cycle, not being able to distinguish between reality and fiction, and wanting to escape.

Conclusion of Caraval.
I completely fell in love with Caraval after reading it because of its captivating plot and magical environment. The book is a maze of illusions, magic, and shocking turns that kept me guessing right up to the very end. My imagination was immediately transported to the scene by the author's detailed description, which gave me the impression that I was there with the characters. .⋆。⋆☂˚。⋆。˚☽˚。⋆.

Critical and Reflective Thinking.
I used evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated which I applied in my Caraval book report presentation. By offering precise examples and proof from the book, I may support my claims and increase the persuasiveness of my conclusions. This shows that I'm not just sharing my personal beliefs, I'm supporting them with solid textual proof. It gives my presentation more credibility and allows a better understanding of my viewpoint by my audience.

Communication.
This is how I select images and words to create a big impact for different audiences. I begin by considering the various feelings and ideas that the book explores. Next, I select pictures and phrases that effectively communicate those emotions to my audience. For instance, I might choose scary and intriguing images and words that create suspense if the novel contains a lot of mystery and tension. Making the audience feel as though they are a part of the plot is the main goal.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility.
when I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I do something I enjoy, such taking a walk outside or listening to my favourite music. I can get my thoughts straight and return to my presentation with a fresh perspective as a result of it. It's crucial that we look after ourselves, especially when we're working on creative projects such as book presentations.
