Reflecting on My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

This year was an eventful, yet blissful release from my past years. I found that I could enjoy my time here more than before. I found peace among my peers and truly enjoy the community I will be raised in. In the past year, I have fought through hardships, as well as hurried to find time for finishing assignments. In the end everything worked out. I am proud to have made it as far as I have, and I hope to get further.

My Favorite Website

https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en

The Canadian Encyclopedia is a website that remains as an incredible service to for whenever I am looking more into the history of our country. It makes me feel more welcome to learning about our land, and overall has advanced knowledge on it. I use it incredibly often, and I am thankful for this website.

My Favorite Video

The video posted here is from my recent assignment of making a stop motion video of a cell going through Mitosis. I chose this as my favorite video as I feel as though I put the most effort into creating it. It was also incredibly fun to create for me.

My Favorite Image

This is a photo of a woven pillow that I had made by hand. I made this in my Arts and Crafts course as one of the final assignments. It took about 3 days to make and was incredibly soft with few errors. It was by far my favorite to create, and I am extremely proud of how it came out.

My Favorite Quote

Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.

– Albert Einstein

The reason for choosing the quote above is because it makes me realize that even in rough times, I must continue forward to succeed. The quote gives me the motivation to keep moving forwards.

Core Competency Assessment

Thinking Core Competency

What you are seeing before you is my prime created example of the Mitosis Stop Motion video that i had made not long ago. I demonstrated this video as an artifact, because through the eyes of a grade 9 student, I view this as my best work, and an excellent representation of my thinking abilities.

An example of how I exercised my thinking was through the designing of the actual objects. I wanted to be creative, so I decided to add both the vibrant text to the words, and the clay design within itself. I am proud of the colorful clays I had used to tell objects apart, and how the video turned out in the end.

I do however feel as though during the making of this, I could have pushed myself further. i would have liked to add longer, more fleshed out sequences between each section of Mitosis, as it did not fully meet my needs for the “perfect” video. However, I am still incredibly proud with how I tried to push my thinking abilities while making this.

Advertisement Persuasion Project

My Advertisement

Persuasion and Advertisement Technique

Persuasion and Advertisement Unit Reflection

it is important to remember who benefits, as to reassess your thinking of whether a product could be worth it or not, so you understand the pros and cons of the item.

I find that the emotional form of persuasion incredibly effective, as it draws your audience in by a sense of closure and understanding, as if you are relating to what they feel. This can be super effective, if used correctly.

I truly believe that visual appeal has a large role in how people see the advertisement. You need to have the right color compositions to make the item stand out, or look pleasant to the viewer.

Core Competencies

One strategy or activity that stimulated my imagination on this project was when it came to the designing of the add. I quickly made up a design for my shoes, and made a promptly appealing background. I truly enjoyed this part of the assignment the most.

I respectfully advocated for my needs on this project by getting feedback from others, to improve smaller features and work off of them independently.

Examples of where I communicated clearly and purposefully on this project can be seen in the overall design of the project, as it shows my understanding of telepathically communicating to the viewers to catch their eye. Another example is how I showed my understanding of how I portrayed the advertisement persuading tactics.

ADL – Collaboration and Solutions for Financial Literacy

Data and Solutions

As a task, my goal was to reach $130K in three years, starting with the 80K I already had.

first, I put my 80K into the GIC for the next 3 years, which would increase the money to $90,509

Meanwhile, using the savings I had gathered from before, I would put 20K of the 30K into stocks,

This means that the rates could either become low and the savings could all add up to $18,620, or the rates would be good and end up being $21,497.2.

Here are the Excel graphs used to represent my work. the two grand total stocks are the alternate outcomes of the stock ratings.

Overall, the 90K combined with the 20K would only equal $112,006, which is actually not enough to get to 130,000. perhaps I would need to borrow money from the bank or a friend

However, if the stocks HAD been low, it would have only added up to $109,129, being 21,000 short.

I feel as though I could have done better, as even with good stocks I am missing 18,000 in cash. I supposed that if I DID add in the 10,000 savings, I would still be missing 8,000, which isn’t very good.

My Calculations!

3 year GIC: 80,000 x 1.042 = 90,509

Savings/stocks: 30,000 -20,000= 10,000

7.48% x 20,000= 21,497.2

20,000 x .931= 18,620

+ 21,497 + 90,509 = $112,006 (+10,000), Goal unreached!

– 18,620 + 90,509 = $109,129 (10,000), Goal unfinished!

Collaborations and Contributions

I believe that working with my friends made it much easier, as we could compare our work to one another’s to find the answer together. I also find that working collaboratively gives me more confidence and ability in my learning.

I contributed myself by helping to calculate the totals, mainly helping with finding the answers to the heavier math. I tried to also watch the others, to get a better grasp on the work that I was learning.

With that, I definitely tried to listen to the ideas of the other group members, as when somebody had an idea, we would put our minds together to make it the most reasonable answer. I regularly tried my best to use their ideas, but made sure to focus on myself as well, and what I thought.

I would give myself a 3/4 on collaboration, as I allowed some of the other group members to take a lead on our projects as well.

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks may include always asking the group members questions, paying attention to the work itself and making sure to write the details down. An example of this is for when we all did the recent GIC and stock work together. we wrote the work down on a piece of paper.

I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. An example of this is when I would ask about what my group wrote, so that we can collaborate. I usually try to make my groups more lively.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I usually try to get to know each person, to make them comfortable so our work together becomes more effective. I try to understand their views on the project, and how they think the work could be completed.

I can reflect on my thinking. I like to think about how it adds up with the work being shown and how I can fit my concepts into my work. Whenever I truly take the time to reflect, I can look back on my mistakes, past and present, to help me learn when I fulfil my future.
