This year, the things that have gone well for me were making new friends. As a grade 9 student coming to high school, my expectations were not making as many friends/mutuals as I already have. Having the friends that I have now, they are my motivation to go to school and somewhat try. Being surrounded by people I feel safe with makes me feel that this whole year has gone well for me.
Areas to Improve
Goals
Action Plan
Be more open to new things
Instead of being afraid of trying new things, I should push myself and gain confidence.
Figure out my career plan
When discovering what I would like to be once I am finished high school, I should work towards that career and look into it more.
Achieve higher grades.
Work harder and pay more attention in class and if I have a question or need help always ask someone.
This year I overcame my fear of highschool, coming into school made me scared a bit but after meeting the people who are my friends now made me feel better. This year I enjoyed being on the track team and basketball team. This year I reached the goal of joining track for the first time and going to a meet. My strengths in school are being able to express myself more and being able to talk to others. My stretches that I could improve on is being able to ask for help when needed when I don’t understand.
My Favourite Website
For my favourtie website I chose Canva. During school, Canva has helped me with making posters for projects. Canva was a great website to use since it had templates and was able to help me brainstorm more ideas for school.
For my favourite video, I chose the Amoeba Sisters, their videos helped me like science more. It also helped with my understanding of science since I am a visual learner.
My Favourite Image
For my favourite image I chose a picture from one of my basketball games. Playing on the basketball team at Cent was really fun and I made deeper connections with all of my teammates.
My Favourite Quote
For my quote I chose one that Audrey Hepurn wrote. I chose this quote because my mom originally named me after Audrey Hepurn. This quote is cheesy but it gets me motivated to go further in my learning and to continue to learn.
Nothing is impossible. The word itself says “I’m possible.” -Audrey Hepurn
Their traditions/holidays are used as an expression of their culture. For sports it’s very similar to Canada. Although they focus on different sports than Canada such as boxing instead of hockey. Puerto Rico’s landmarks are more tropical than the cold weather in Canada, as Puerto Rico is under the equator and the land is fully surrounded by water.
I would visit this country because of it’s tropical weather and the culture that revolves around it. The landmarks. I would also go for the beautiful tourist attractions such as San Jose Church and the floating umbrella street.
Core Competency Reflection
I work with others to achieve a goal. I demonstrated this throughout the duration of this project. While working with others, we plan to set an expectation and we do our best to reach that goal.
I can identify my strengths and identify my potential. I display my strengths and potential by pushing myself the highest point that I can be. I try hard and work hard to achieve my goal and prove it in my work.
I give, receive, and act on feedback to progress my goals. With the feedback I receive from peers I do my best to include and evaluate the feedback on my work. I work around and with the feedback I get and I try to use it in my work so it I can get the best mark that I deserve.
I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I demonstrate this by asking the speaker question to be interactive and if I don’t get it. I bring my full attention to the speaker and stop myself from going on my phone by putting it in my bag.
My future goal
One of my future goals is that I find it easy to be part of a group. I will work towards this goal by interacting with more casements during my free time. Although, most of my peers in the class I know so it would be a bit easier to get comfortable around them in order to work as a group.
We have done the math of how much n=money we will have after three years, which is the right amount of money we needed.
GIC’s is safe.
Weaknesses:
We aren’t able to touch our money for 3 years since it is with GIC.
We can’t access any money if we need it.
Tolerance:
The solution we chose does fit my tolerance of being safe and having a bit of a risk, but with the math that is done and decisions that have been made, it does suit my choices.
Our plan vs stocks
GIC’s ensures that we will have the right amount of money we will need by the third year.
Stocks are also a good idea but it is more of a risk. Stocks would’ve gotten us more money but, we can also get the right amount of money we need with the 3 year GIC without a big risk.
Collaboration and Contribution
Working with our groups worked out fine even with people away.
I contributed by helping make the excel document, everyone else helped make a plan and solution.
Yes we did use other solutions that was said with the group. We used two separate solutions.
My ability to work with other is like a 3/4.
Core Competencies – Collaboration
I know the group is working well together when I hear/see everyone talking and communicating with each other and knowing our responsibilities and contributions to the group. I can work with others to achieve a goal.
When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try my best to be open to anything and just welcome them. As we work together it is also a opportunity to get to know each other more and help each other more. I can recognize different point of views and can disagree respectful.
Our friendship was like milk. Before it was pouring a cup for each other every day, where we would talk 24/7 and plan our future together. The glass was so full of loyalty and kindness that it would soon overflow the cup, leaving the remainders go to waste.
Eventually we didn’t have a glass of milk in a while, where our carton that we created together was soon lost in the deep abyss of the chaotic fridge. The milk soon went spoiled as the rumors and lies slowly rotted our carton. We took our friendship for granted whilst thinking it was ever lasting.
I hoped for the milk to still be good, so I gave it another try, only to have an acid like taste burning my throat. The bitter and sour aftertaste of betrayal and weakness taking over what was once sweet, leaving my carton feel incomplete. Our eternal spoiled milk.
During this task, I learned more about the sound devices and figures of speech. I grew in writing skills by extending my knowledge about the ways to write poems. It helped me be more creative and expose my writing skills that made me more confident.
Core Competencies Reflection
#ThinkingCC
I used reflective and creative thinking when working on my poem. It helped me identify who I was and dug deeper into my emotions. When I was stuck on what to write about, I brainstormed and just thought of multiple ideas and chose which one I should do. I asked peers if I should anything about my poem so it could be better. Next time I would wish we had more time instead of one day because it was difficult with the time range but I still managed.
My feeling emoji: I am feeling anxious and excited today. 😁
Health and Wellness Core Competency Reflection
When I need to boost my mood, or re-focus, I listen to music or hangout with my friends and talk to them. Listening to music always boosts my mood and re-focuses me, my friends are always there for me which makes me feel better.
When I am sad, anger or frustrated, listening to music helps me be more productive or calm. Or taking a brain break such as walking outside and going for fresh air helps me get more energy out and become more productive.
The person who benefits from the advertisement the most is the company, owner, production, and whoever was in the advertisement.
It is important to know the who because that is your intended audience.
The techniques of logical, emotional, and ethical is effective because they can start to get to the audiences heads and persuade them into buying the product.
Eye appealing technique is effective because it’s showing the product and by the looks of the product it would make you want to buy the product. Bandwagon is effective because it makes you feel guilty if you don’t buy the product. Card stacking works because you discard the bad parts of your product and only talk about the positives.
Overall, I learned the many techniques of persuasion and how it can be used. I also learned that commercials can lie about certain things and only point out the good parts of the product and not the negative.
Core Competency Reflection
An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when me and my partner were discussing our idea’s and what product we were going to use. We agreed on a product to use and we soon discussed what were going to do. As we filmed our ad, we came up with multiple ways to be creative and have a product we were both happy with in the end.
I showed that I valued feedback from others in my group by taking that feedback into reconsideration and adjust my project into the criteria my group members have given me.
One of the ways I ensured my group was clear on what we were doing was to communicate with them to make sure we were all on the same page.
I have learned in my English class to create an infographic that connects myself to see different aspects of Positive Personal and Cultural Identity competency,
My short/long term goal with my digital spaces is to be more “tech savy” which those include, how to properly use word and if, I am having a problem with my laptop like for example, having trouble making a new email address. Being more “tech savy” can help me in the future and help me in upcoming classes. Having the ability to fix something and to learn how to do those tasks myself, help to prepare me better for future references. My plan to achieve this goal is to use my laptop more often instead of using my phone. Including my laptop everyday while doing schoolwork such as researching or writing an essay, can help improve my skills by enforcing my day-to-day skills like homework to use my laptop.
I value achieving high marks by working hard and going beyond what is asked for. I try my best to look for the bigger picture and focus on what I am learning. This informs me that, if I want to achieve high marks that I expect of myself, I should reduce my time on my phone using apps such as Snapchat and TikTok. To achieve this goal of receiving high marks I should put more dedication and effort into my work to earn a higher mark.
By supporting and checking up on my friends online, I make a positive difference to my peers.
