Lab 20C Self-Assessment

Artifact:

The burette helped me measure the volume of NaOH during this lab. The burette was very useful in lab because it allowed precise and controlled delivery of the titrate.

I can analyze evidence to make judgments. In this lab, the procedure was to have a neutralization. The end result should be a light pink. By my judgement during each trial, it was based off the evidence I had, which was the shade of the solution I created.

I can consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation. Instead of doing the lab once, I repeated the lab to ensure my data was correct, as well as the shade of the solution. This leads to trial and error, by repeating the lab more than once, this helps ensure that I can not repeat the same mistakes I had made before.

Law Debate

The Debate

Pham, Audrey – Debate Vaccine

Core Competency Reflection

If there is a disagreement within the group, I find it helpful for everyone to say their idea and we all collaborate together to make a meaningful idea that includes everyone’s opinion.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I make sure to be more outgoing and willing to start conversations with the person to make sure they aren’t uncomfortable. I get to know the person more as well so we are able to collaborate together better.

Although I am challenged by executing my thoughts and reasonings throughly, I can get by these challenges by working with my partner and collaborating together to help me get a better understanding and viewpoint.

SJ Reflection

SJ Midterm Reflection

Core Competency Reflection

I can ask open-ended questions to gather information.

Throughout this semester in SJ, I am constantly working with those around me and collaborating with peers helps my understanding with the topics that are discussed. When doing projects, I regularly have multiple resources when researching for the project. Once I have information gathered, I share them out to my peers and if I feel like the information I have gathered isn’t satisfying me, I will then ask my peers questions to obtain more information.

One goal I have for myself is to deepen my understanding on SJ topics and be able to share out my knowledge with those around me. In order to reach this goal I must be able to ask my peers questions and have multiple resources. I want to reach this goal because ultimately, I want to understand SJ topics better.

Quadratic Equations in Vertex Form

1. y= x^2 Vertex is (0,0)

2. y= 3(x+5)^2 – 1 Vertex is (-5,-1)

3. y= – 6/7 (x-5)^2 + 2 Vertex is (5,2)

4. y= (x+5)^2 Vertex is (-5,0)

5. y= x^2 – 4 Vertex is (0,-4)

My red parabola is a parent function that has no k-value, making it the simplest form of a family function. This makes all of the parabolas properties equal to all real numbers and that they will all be positive. My black parabola is going downwards because the value of a is less than zero. The black parabola is also narrower and vertically stretched because |a|>1. My blue parabola is opening wider because the -6/7 is 0<|a|<1, making it shorter and wider (vertically compressed) than the parent function. My green parabola has no k, making it have no y-interception. The h is -5, making the parabola sit in the negatives on the x-axis. My purple value has the vertex of (0,-4) which makes my point of symmetry at -4 on the y-axis, Which makes the given minimum value to be y-4.

Self-Assessment

I represented the same mathematical idea of parabolas in multiple ways in this assignment by creating multiple equations that are significant to parabolas. Using DESMOS, I was able to graph such parabolas, this helped my formatting to be clear and meaningful. Some relevant mathematical vocabulary I used was vertically compressed which means the parabola will be shorter and wider than usual. The y-axis is the vertical coordinates on a graph, and the x-axis is the horizontal coordinate on a graph. My blue sentence demonstrates a full sentence using mathematical vocabulary. I found these definitions in my notes that I had taken and I remembered some of the definitions from prior lessons.

Core Competencies

I can share my ideas and thoughts on with my peers. I would like to work on the core competency because I don’t really say my ideas out loud to my peers.
I can manage my time. I need to work on the competency because I need to plan out my schedule for the day and manage my time better.

Spanish 10 Core Competency Self-Assessment

My Unit 5 Conversation

Communication Core Competency

I can encourage others to share their voices and value diverse perspectives. As a group to create a conversation in Spanish, we had to share our ideas for the topic of the conversation. I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. My partner Wren speaks Spanish at home, so when I was confused when creating our conversation, I made sure to ask questions if I was confused to have a deeper understanding on our conversation. I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. When it was our turn to go up and present our conversation to the class, I made sure I projected my voice and was confident. I fully understood my conversation and I delivered it clearly to my classmates.

CPR Reflection

My learning of CPR

CPR Reflection

I learned how to perform CPR. I learned about the four R’s, and the differences between strokes and heart attacks. Its key take away from this unit was how to save a life and be able to do CPR . This connects to the nutrition unit with the risks that could happen if you don’t maintain a healthy diet or do not exercise often, this could affect you.

Core Competency Reflection

I can communicate my problems and think critically during situations. During a serious situation such as saving a life, I have to be sure to stay calm and communicate with others. When saving a life, you have to be sure to stay calm and assess the situation that you are in. Do not let denial and fear take over your emotions.

Acids and Bases Lab!

Today we experimented with different elements and compounds. Using litmus paper and droppers for the elements, this experiment turned out fun. I learned when the acids were mixed, the bases can be neutral, basic, and acidic! When the elements are combined, different colours appear or can stay colourless. When the element is in contact with the litmus paper, (red and blue) the paper can turn into a different colour. The most repetitive colour that was seen when combining compounds was red. This experiment was an excellent lesson!

Novel Study Review

To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee

The Reading Process

The difficulties I encountered while reading this book, was waiting for the climax to happen. It was very boring in the beginning of the book. After the reading the first ten chapters, it became easier to follow along and read. Multiple parts of the book surprised me, most scenes revolving around Tom Robinson. I also enjoyed the moral of the story, and how the name of the book connects with the book itself. ‘To kill a mocking bird’ resembles the killing of something so pure and innocent. The structure of the writing was well put together as well.

Core Competency Reflection

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by listening to others in different discussions. When building an understanding on a topic I am not familiar with, I try my best to listen to others thoughts and opinions.

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is listening to music or taking a brain break around the school. Taking a break helps me the most, that is when my mind starts working and I think of new ways to do something. When I get overworked, taking a break from the activity helps me most.

I appreciate feedback on my work I prefer it comes in the forms of friendliness and niceness. Being to harsh with feedback can tear someone’s mental health down. Being told in the forms of negativity won’t make you want to change. When receiving valuable feedback, your tone and the way you approach a person matters the most.
