Curricular Response
Explain how you chose one image and one quotation to create or support the meaning represented in your map assignment. The quote that stood out to me was, “The sign was painted, said private property”, because this just shows us what the non Indigenous people thought of indigenous peoples land and property. Clearly they didn’t care about the sign because they just continued whatever they were doing. The drawing I decided to draw for this quote was a person holding its hand up to another person who was trying to talk but was immediately shut down. The drawing is meant to be a figurative drawing of an indigenous person who is trying to speak to a non indigenous person but is ignored. Overall, this quote and drawing shows us no matter how Indigenous peoples tried to set boundaries or have a say in something, it was just shut down immediately.
Core Competency Self-Assessment
How did you select images and words to create meaning? What this easy for you? Why or why not? I selected my images based on my quotes I chose. I chose quotes that I thought were important and I would be able to draw a picture of them that I thought was significant to the topic of indigenous peoples being disregarded. It was hard to only pick 4 quotes because I thought everything they were saying in both songs were important. The reason I think the are important is because I think they should be talked about more because of the important lesson they both give from different perspectives.
