Textile Arts and Crafts Core Competency Self-Assessment

A project I am proud of this semester is my Needle felting project.

Core Competnecy

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.

I demonstrated this by, when I was forming my needle felting project I based it off of an idea I found online but instead of just copying it I added and changed some things around from the original idea to make it my own.

Core Competency Reflection

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I.. I try my best to get conversation rolling that way it will be way easier to work with them the whole week

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to…. A way I ensure my group is clear is checking in once in a while to see what they are doing and I check in to make sure I am doing the right thing.

R3 – School Life

How does school in japan compare to canada. Is there anything they do in Japan, that you wish we did at Centennial?

School in japan is way different compared to canada. Japanese schools are way more orgainzed and it feels like you have to do theese specific things when i canada it feels more free. like uniforms, unless you are in a private school you can wear whatever you want, and when you are in elementary or middle school you have to wear theese specific back packs called randoseru, but here you can pick any backpack you want.

Do you think that students should have more responsibilities at school like cleaning duty or for clubs/sports?

I think that students should should take more reponsibility on cleaning up after them selves to help the janitors. In japan it is very rude to litter so everyone cleans up after them selves which is why it is so clean there. i dont think we need cleaning duties but everyone should clean up after them selves.

do you think you will win rock paper scissors and win the left overs?

no.

R4 Supaidaman

How does the story differ from, the western and Japanese version?

I found that the western spider man is more about justice and a classic battle between the good and evil but the Japanese supaidaman is more about responsibility friendship and the struggles of balancing personal life and hero duties.

were there any moments that made you laugh or particularly invested?
I felt the most invested when he found out that he has powers because it felt like a heroic moment and was very interesting.

Would I recommend this show to others why or why not.

I would recommend this show to others because I feel like if you have seen the western Spider-Man it would be cool to see the differences and compare the different styles they each have.

what do you think future generations will think about are media?
I think that future generations would think if are media like how we think if the first iPhone. They would feel like it’s old but not that old.

Health and Well Being Reflection

The main cause for stress and anxiety in my life is usually school and dance competitions. I found that dance competitions give me anxiety some times but I also found that dance relives my stress. When im at dance or a convention my brain just shuts down about everything else that is happening and it gets rid of the stress.

how does digital use affect my mental health? digital use affects my mental health sometimes when i cant get off my phone at night. to fix this temptation I set a certain time to get off my phone depending on what time i get to bed because I am always home late because of dance.

personal/ social reflection

people should be making good choices online when for example, if you are on Snapchat, don’t just add random people who add you make sure you know them first and ask your parents so you don’t get stalked by a stranger. I also think that when commenting on peoples pos you should keep your opinions to yourself if are a bad opinion for example don’t comment on peoples posts just to bring them down only comment if you are encouraging them to keep doing what they love.

R1. Independent children

how old were you when you started to do chores? do you do chores?

I started doing random chores here and there as I grew up. my chore around the house right now is folding the laundry and wiping the kitchen table. But many kids in japan started chores way earlier in there childhood. For example, they all walk to school without there parents every single day. as I grew up I also did small errands by my self to learn independence here and there. such as going to the cashier and paying by my self or going to find something at the grocery store and many things like that.

Do you think that children should grow up with Japanese ideals of independence?

I think that Japanese independence is very useful in every day life such as when your kids are in kindergarten and they walk to school all by there self, when you have work early in the morning. but I don’t think that would work in countries like Canada and U.S unless every single kid walks to school by them selves like kids in japan. I think this because I could not imagine a 5 year old walking to school all by them selves in Canada. especially places like surrey and new west because there are weird people out there that could easily kidnap that child. but in japan usually no one thinks to do that since its such a common thing, and they have there bright yellow caps on that you cant miss. That is why I think that kids are more independent in japan. although I do think it is very beneficial if kids do grow up like kids in japan. But it is very hard to just let your kids go off without feeling concerned in some countries.

when did you first use transit, go to school or do other things by your self?

I dont really remember my first time doing something by me self but, I do remember when I was young, my very first errand was in japan when I was visiting my grandparents, Me and my younger brother were given some money to walk to the gelato shop that was about 2 minuets away from my grandmas house. we were successfully able to walk there and eat the gelato. The first time I walked to school by me self was probably the first day of grade 6. I was able to walk earlier than that but i was too lazy and drove there as my brother was with me as well, and that continued till grade 8.
