Spanish 11 Core Competency Reflection

Critical Thinking

I demonstrated critical thinking while writing ”Mi ultima vacacion.” Before writing, I brainstormed thoughtful questions to ask myself about my favorite vacation and how I could organize it in a clear, concise manner. I thought about why it was my favorite and how it was different than other vacations. I made an effort to structure my paragraph properly with an introduction and a closing sentence. When I was stuck on what to write, I went back to earlier assignments for inspiration and vocabulary. Additionally, I thought critically about what verb tense to use, and when I was stuck, I looked at older notes.

Transforming Parabolas

  1. The parent function: f(x)=x² (Red parabola)
  2. A parabola that demonstrates a vertical shift up: y=2(x+17+9 (Black parabola)
  3. A parabola that demonstrates a vertical shift down: y=1/5(x-2)²-3 (Blue parabola)
  4. A parabola that demonstrates a horizontal shift left: y=1/4(x+7)²+1 (Dotted purple parabola)
  5. A parabola that demonstrates a horizontal shift right: y=2/5(x-13)²-4 (Dotted red parabola)
  6. A parabola that demonstrates vertical stretch: y=9(x+10)²-5 (Green parabola)
  7. A parabola that demonstrates vertical compression: y=1/10(x-5)²-6 (Dotted black parabola)
  1. This red parabola demonstrates the parent function f(x)=x². This is the starting point/blueprint for a family of functions.
  2. This black parabola demonstrates a vertical shift up, as the ”k” value highlighted in the above paragraph is positive. This is the y value in the vertex.
  3. This blue parabola demonstrates a vertical shift down, as the ”k” value highlighted above is negative. This is the y value in the vertex.
  4. This dotted purple parabola demonstrates a horizontal shift left, as the ”h” value highlighted above is positive. This is the x value in the vertex.
  5. This dotted red parabola demonstrates a horizontal shift right, as the ”h” value highlighted above is negative. This is the x value in the vertex.
  6. This green parabola demonstrates a vertical stretch, as the absolute value of ”a” highlighted above is greater than one.
  7. This dotted black parabola demonstrates a vertical compression, as the absolute value of ”a” highlighted above is less than one, but greater than zero.

Communication Core Competency Reflection

I can understand and share information in a clear, organized way. I demonstrate this by reading instructions multiple times, ensuring that my end result is what was asked of me. I made sure my graph contained well spread out parabolas, making it easy to interpret, and my writing was clear and concise. Additionally, I look over my work, double checking for any mistakes or misinformation.

I think about what I am going to convey and to whom I will convey it to. I ensured that I was fully prepared before beginning this assignment. I read over my notes and wrote out my equations on a scrap piece of paper beforehand. I ensured that I fully explained each step I took while graphing and why I made certain choices, applying what we learned in class. I wanted to make sure that anyone reading could understand my thought process.

Making and Sharing Reflection

To create this dessert, key tools include an electric mixer, whisk, small measures, pot and mixing bowls. Technologies like the oven are critical, while refrigeration is necessary to store the components overnight. The stove is used to make the tangy lemon curd. Food sources include eggs, sugar, cream, fresh berries, butter, and lemons, with pantry staples such as vanilla extract. Processes involve making the meringue and lemon curd on day one, and assembling the dessert with whipped cream, heated lemon curd and berries on day two. Costs were cheap, as we already had the majority of the ingredients. My group and I shared this meal with various teachers and peers.

Core Competency Reflection

As an active listener, I notice that I stop what I am doing when the teacher is speaking. I focus on key points such as ingredients we will need and various procedures we can follow.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in several steps of each lab. Before the process, my group and I communicate about our duties and what steps will take place. During the process I ask for help when I am confused and help peers who are struggling.

I show others that I truly value their contributions by acknowledging their help and support. I ensure that I do my share as well. This shows that I am not taking advantage of their time and energy.

A goal I have for the future is to perfect my baking and cooking skills by experimenting with more intricate meals and desserts, such as tarts. This will positively impact my cooking experience later in life. I can share them with peers to receive criticism and develop my skills.

Curricular Competency Reflection

My partners and I used various styles and themes to create two creative and eye-catching posters. For the Redbull poster, we used celebrity endorsement, displaying Shaquille O’Neal as someone who enjoys our product, using it to reach his full potential on the court. For the SpongeBob poster, we utilized character presenter, to showcase the new Krabby Patty meal at Wendys. Throughout the development of our posters, the website Adobe helped us edit and design. Our target market for each product is quite broad. We were hoping to appeal to numerous kinds of consumers, gaining traction from many. We spent time thinking through our ideas, and how to properly convey our message. We also looked at inspiration advertising posters to get ideas and learn how to create an appealing design.

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include using multiple sources of information, gaining as much insight as possible. I use my own sources, such as YouTube, Google, or Pinterest, as well as the ones provided for me by the teacher. This may include PowerPoints or links to videos.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to discuss beforehand about what our jobs are and how we can collaborate to make a proficient piece of work. If anyone gets confused throughout the process, we ask each other/the teacher questions.

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is brainstorming ideas on a scrap piece of paper or a blank word document before starting the good copy. This allows me to get multiple ideas out before forgetting. Additionally, I got inspiration through other people’s ads and posters before beginning.
