Math Self Assessment

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is the importance of linear and quadratic expressions, equations, systems, and inequalities. Throughout the semester I practiced using a variety of methods to solve problems involving those topics and discovered how these concepts can be applied to real life situations.

To celebrate an accomplishment, such as doing well on an exam, I take a break to do something I enjoy, such as playing video games. However, I try to limit the amount of time I spend doing low-effort, high-dopamine activities, devoting as much time as possible to higher-effort tasks that are more rewarding in the end.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in my assignments and tests, where I strive to make it clear how I arrived at the answer, including steps and calculations.

By being friendly and respectful in the classroom, I make a positive difference to my peers.

Core Competency Self-Assessment – Chemistry 11

I can work with others to achieve a goal.

In our titration lab, I worked with my group to titrate an HCl solution of unknown concentration. Because I was absent the first day, I was somewhat unsure of what to do, but my group members helped me. As a group, we exchanged thoughts and ideas while ensuring everyone took equal part in the work.

Cilantro Lime Honey Chicken + Black Bean Burrito

Making and Sharing Reflection

For the Cilantro Lime Honey Chicken + Black Bean Burrito, we used basic kitchen tools provided at school, like cutting boards, knives, and frying pans. We chose simple, affordable ingredients that could be prepared within the time we had in class. While cooking, our group tasted the food and gave each other feedback, which helped us decide how much lime and honey to use to balance the flavors.

We shared the finished burritos with the rest of our cooking group during class. Looking back on the process, I realized that adding something creamy like sour cream or avocado could improve the texture. If I made this again, I’d also try creating a vegetarian version with roasted vegetables or tofu.

Core Competency Reflection

While working in the kitchen, I help to build and extend understanding by asking questions if I’m unsure about something and checking in with my group to make sure we’re on the same page. I also try to repeat instructions or explain steps out loud so everyone understands what we’re doing next. This keeps us organized and helps avoid confusion while cooking.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to go over the recipe together at the start and assign roles so everyone knows what to do. I like to make sure we all understand the final goal, especially with timing, so we stay focused and finish on time.

I show others that I truly value their contributions by listening to their suggestions, giving them a chance to lead certain parts, and thanking them for their help. Even small actions, like helping clean up or encouraging someone while they cook, show that I respect and appreciate their effort.

One goal I have for myself going forward is to improve how I handle disagreements in group settings. If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to listen to everyone’s point of view before jumping in with my own opinion. I’m working on this goal because I sometimes try to avoid conflict by staying quiet, but I’ve learned that respectful discussion can actually lead to better teamwork and solutions. To achieve this, I will practice staying calm, asking questions to understand others’ ideas, and suggesting compromises when needed so everyone feels heard and included.

Focaccia

Making And Sharing Reflection

Creating Focaccia involved several important steps. Firstly, I made a step-by-step plan for production by thoroughly reading the recipe and actively participating in demonstrations, ensuring I understood each step. Secondly, I worked both individually and collaboratively, making necessary adjustments to improve the texture and flavor. Lastly, I identified and used appropriate equipment such as a loaf pan and mixing bowl, along with materials and processes like kneading dough and practicing proper fermentation techniques.

When it came to sharing the Focaccia, I decided to share it with my family. I critically evaluated the success of the recipe by tasting and gathering feedback, which helped me identify areas for improvement. Additionally, I assessed my ability to work effectively both as an individual and in collaboration with others, ensuring that the final product was well-received and delicious.
