Plot, Character, Setting and Mood

I wanted Cole’s avatar to have an “unamused” expression on his face, and I chose a nature background so that it looked like he was on the island. I also chose clothes that looked like he was on the island (as opposed to being at school or somewhere else).

We chose the plot points by taking the most important events from each chapter (although we did not include a point for one or two of the chapters). We mainly focused on what happened in the present, rather than talk about what happened in the past – one point described him reflecting on a memory.

We mostly used a nature setting for our story, although one image does not have a background and one is in a “room” setting, from after Cole was saved and removed from the island.

Mood is the general “feeling” of the story as it progresses. It isn’t always the same as the characters’ feelings, but rather the emotion that the author is trying to make the reader feel. We chose an uplifting track because the story is about Cole’s redemption.

Core Competency Reflection

An example of an idea I developed that was new to my peers was using Pixabay for images. Pixabay is a source of free, no attribution required images and media. It is helpful to use this, and Easybib, which includes a Digital Image citation option, to cite sources correctly.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in this presentation, where I put together some of the slides, and added transitions and timing to each one. I also wrote the conclusion and some of the predictions for this presentation.

In discussions in conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by making sure to contribute whenever possible. I volunteer in class, and suggest ideas for how we can organize our group work.
