I find that a helpful way to manage stress is to be mindful of how I want to spend my time, and what the outcome(s) or my actions will actually be. I think that it’s often helpful to consciously check if what I’m doing is helpful or not in the given situation.
I think that technology is a sort of coping mechanism of stress for me. I find that in school assignments, I often want to go back and change things in my work, and technology makes that easier.
This year, I think that one of the things that has actually reduced my stress was co-founding the chess club, which gave me something to do in my spare time, and something to look forward to when I have many tasks to get done. Many of the things we do in the chess club are done through technology, so in that sense, technology has reduced my stress this year.
In my opinion, technology is a great way to hang out with friends after school without having to organize everything over at your house (or your friend having to organize everything at their house before you come). I think that one of the most important things about this, though, is that you are (verbally) talking to your friend(s) while playing a game or hanging out. This helps us say what we want to share, and this helps more than people realize.
I can use technology to support myself in my well-being by being mindful of whether or not using technology would benefit me in a certain situation. For me, it’s almost always easier to use technology rather than write on a physical sheet of paper, but for easier or smaller assignments, using technology can simply be tedious.
Core Competency Reflection
I find it easy to be part of a group. When I’m in a group, I make sure we know when to meet to work on the assignment we are given. I make sure to do my part and help my group members when they need it.
I am kind to others, and support others when they need it. In school, I am always willing to help others understand a concept taught in class, or let people borrow supplies.
I participate in classroom or group activities that improve the class, school, or community. In class, I make study resources and share them with my peers. I have also co-founded a chess club in the school, where I think that many people are getting to know each other.
