Core Competency Reflection

This is how I select images and words to create impact for different audiences:

  • For images:
    • I mainly used my own drawings as they could be more relevant than pictures I could find online and detail wasn’t important.
    • I also created a few animations in PowerPoint – specifically, an animation resembling a search and another showing money falling on a person who doesn’t know what to do with it.
    • Finally, I did use two online images. For the image of Tours, France, I had to make sure that I got one of the actual city (“Tours” is the name of the city, which messes with search results), so I found an image from Wikipedia/Wikimedia.
  • For words:
    • I included a lot of my own opinions as I thought it would be less interesting to talk about as many details as possible instead. I thought more about what I wanted to say in English, before writing it in French.
    • For the image/picture captions in the presentation, I tried to keep them simple and to the point. A couple were a bit sarcastic for added impact (e.g. picture of person with money, but behind bars, with caption “Es-tu contente??”).

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in:

  • Simple and to-the-point graphics: For science, math, or similar presentations, where there are lots of specific facts, I find that online images/screenshots of things can be useful. However, if a slide needs to show what I’m explaining, there will often not be an image online that is entirely relevant. I also find “barely-relevant” images much less impactful as they don’t feel like they express the opinions of the presenter. So, I used my own drawings for most of this presentation. I’m not a good artist, but my drawings will be more relevant than something I find online.

One goal I have for myself going forward is to collect more relevant information for specific tasks. I didn’t have much “researched” information in my presentation and instead focused on the song itself and my own opinions. Next time, I could include more of this so that my presentation can be more informative.
