Unit Concept Conceptions

Curricular Response

An idea that transfers from the Energy unit to the Waves unit is that energy is related to motion and can be transferred. In the Energy unit, energy depends on how something moves, such as kinetic energy Ek=12mv2E_k = \tfrac{1}{2}mv^2Ek=21mv2, where a faster object has more energy. In the Waves unit, waves transfer energy through space, and this can be seen using the wave equation v=fλv = f\lambdav=fλ, which shows how the motion of a wave depends on frequency and wavelength. Even though the equations are different, both units focus on how motion is connected to the transfer of energy.

Core Competency Reflecting And Assessing

I approached this question by first looking at what each unit was really about instead of memorizing formulas, and then identifying a core idea that appeared in both units. Rather than forcing the same equation to appear twice, I focused on how concepts like motion and energy transfer show up in different forms, which made it easier to explain the connection clearly.

Seeing these connections does make me more confident in our scientific understanding of reality because it shows that different areas of physics are not isolated; they support and explain each other. When the same ideas apply across multiple units, it reinforces my confidence in science as a reliable way of determining truth, since consistent patterns and relationships suggest that science accurately describes how the real world works.

Core Competency Reflection

I work with others to achieve a goal. Me and my partner demonstrated this by having him gather information and having me put together a poster to achieve our goal.

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I showed this by taking pictures of my work and showing it off to my parents and peers as I was very proud of my project.

I can reflect on my thinking. I reflected on my thinking by analyzing multiple ways on how to make my poster. I went over each way until I found the one I liked most.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I showed this by thinking about ways to create a flag for my poster. I found a pair of chopsticks then printed out the flag and glued the flag on the chopstick. I placed them beside my title to help enhance my poster.

Core Competency Reflection

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include… Whenever I make things like online accounts, I normally make them private and make sure I am not sharing lots of my personal information on the apps that I use.

My strengths as a digital citizen include…They contribute to my community (classroom, club, city, etc.)

through/ because… My strengths as a digital citizen include being very smart when it comes to computer virus hacks like I’m very good at identifying when something is a virus or not. My strength can contribute to my peer’s wellbeing as I can help them confirm if something like a download, they find suspicious, and I can help them know if it’s a virus or not.

By doing… online, I make a positive difference to my peers. I make a positive difference to my peers online by complementing them when they decide to post themselves and by doing that I’m making them feel better about themselves.
