When I am sad, angry or frustrated, doing… helps me be more productive or calm….During the flatworm lab, I got frustrated because the flatworm wouldn’t eat no matter what I tried. I tried different ways to encourage it to feed, but nothing seemed to work. I started to feel stressed and worried that I wouldn’t be able to complete the experiment. I decided to take a break for a few minutes and let the flatworm rest. I stepped away from the lab to give both the flatworm and myself some space. When I came back, I felt calmer, and the flatworm eventually started to feed. This showed me that being patient and stepping away when things aren’t working can help me solve problems and focus better. It also helped me realize that sometimes a little distance can give me a new perspective on the situation, making it easier to figure out what to do next.
This project shows both strengths and areas to improve in my writing. A strength is the use of clear examples, like Marilyn Dumont’s poem and Joseph Boyden’s identity controversy, to support my ideas. The conclusion is strong and ties everything together well. However, some sentences are a bit long and could be clearer. I also need to improve transitions between ideas to make the paragraph flow better. Moving forward, I’ll focus on keeping my writing clear and connected.
Core Competency Self Reflection:
One of my top priorities in the coming weeks for EFP 11 is to use my class time more wisely, especially for reading. Sometimes I find myself rushing through texts or getting distracted, which makes it harder to fully understand and analyze what I’m reading. I want to focus on reading more carefully during class so I can better connect the material to my assignments. This will also give me more time at home to work on other things. By improving how I use my class time, I’ll be able to feel less rushed and hand in better work.
Communication and collaboration: I collaborated with others during the preparation and presentation of our project on tidal energy. During this project I worked with others to achieve a goal in class. I took a on responsibilities in the group for the presentation. I also encouraged others to share their opinions and cooperate. I listened and considered different opinions and i was able to respectfully disagree on some. We divided the tasks equally to others. However, there wasn’t enough clear communication. I think we should have communicated more and made sure we were on the same page. Next time, I would communicate more to set a clear final goal.
I demonstrated aspects of evidence, Cause and Consequence, and perspective by showing all of the push and pull factors on why people emigrate from Iraq and immigrate to Canada in a clear and concise infographic.
Core Competencies Reflection:
I can analyze evidence to make judgements… I demonstrated how i can analyze evidence to make judgments, because during this assignment i needed to do research on all of the reasons my people and families immigrate to Canada then my judgements on which ones were the best to put in my infographic.
when completing this project i demonstrated that i understand significance and evidence. when completing this project i showed that i know what significance is by showing how it changed cotton farming during the Industrial Revolution, And i used evidence to support my claims.
Core Competencies Reflection:
During this project i demonstrated that i can critically think and use my communication skills. i showed that i can critically think by researching all of the evidence i needed to find to convince people to buy my product. I also showed that i can use my communication skill during this project, because after I did all of research and pull all of my evidence together on why they should invest in my invention, then i had to go up in front of the class and present the project.
Explain how you figured out what your Avatar would look like.
I figured out what they would look like by their descriptions in the book and also looking up fan art images that other people created, and that helped me design my avatar.
How did you choose the plot points?
I chose the plot points based on how they were explained in class, because for example we were told that the initiation incident was the part of the story where the main conflict begins. So when i was reading i was looking for those points in the book, and when i finished reading the book i went back and chose what i thought was the best one.
Explain how you figured out the setting in your story. Why is the setting significant to the story?
I figured out the setting by paying attention to the way the protagonist described the world around her. the setting is very important because if it was set in a different time and place the vibe of the book would be completely different.
Explain what the word mood means and how/why you picked the song that you picked?
the word mood is the way the author makes you feel when you are reading his or her book. i chose the song I did because is the begging its very suspenseful then if becomes more up beat and action packed.
Core Competency reflection
An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is… During this project when it was time to create our own avatars we needed to envision the way our characters looked, but i was struggling because i felt like my antagonist was missing something so i looked up some of the art the other people have made and that helped me find what was missing.
When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I… We started this project on the last week of school before spring break so i was very excited about that, and not really focusing in class when i should have been. So after school i would either listen to music or go on a walk to try and re-focus then after i felt more calm and ready to work i would get all my work done.
I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this… Throughout the entire time I was reading this book I would keep little sticky notes in places i thought were important and could help me later on with my powerpoint presentation.
the lab… during this lab, we were told to get 2 Twizzlers, a hand full of coloured marshmallows, and some tooth pics. We were told to pair up the 4 different colours with A/T and C/G pairs. I liked this project because the colours helped me learn base pairs, my partner and I also enjoyed eating the candy afterwards.
Core Competency Reflection
I can work with others to achieve a goal… During this project, our goal was to complete the lab and understand more about base pairs. By the end of the block, my partner and I both had a better understanding of base pairs and DNA.
I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener… Throughout the block, I and my partner were asking a lot of questions about DNA, base pairs, genes, and the “backbone” of the strand. When ms. Rutledge was telling the class more information to help prepare for the quiz we were both active listeners. By the end of the class, we both felt prepared for the quiz.
calculations with a 3-year 4.2% non-redeemable GIC :
year 1: 80,000 x 1.042 = $83,360
year 2: 83,360 x 1.042 = $86,861
year 3: 86,861.12 x 1.042 = $90,509
calculations with a 1-year 3.5% non-redeemable GIC :
starting total of $80,000
year 1: 10,000 x 1.035 = $10,350
year 2: 10,350 x 1.035 + 20,000 = $30,712
grand total :$90,509 + 30,712 = 121,221
justification:
I chose this option because there is no chance of you losing any money in a GIC, unlike with stocks you have lots of risks and chances of losing money. The main downside with this option is that you can not access your money for the allotted time period without big fees. Another reason why i chose this option is because of my score on the risk tolerance quiz, the quiz told me that i am not a very big risk taker and most of the time i go with the safest option.
collaboration and contributions:
1. How did you find working with your group? I found the collaboration part of this project wasn’t the best because most of the group was either on their phones or doing different projects for other classes instead of contributions their ideas.
2. How did you contribute to the group? And how did others in the group contribute to your learning? I felt like I took the leadership role in the group by paying attention to the teacher when he was explaining what to do and actually being able to help others in the group who had questions. Most of the others in the group helped with finding the formulas of the calculations we needed to figure out.
3. Did you use any other solutions proposed by your group? Why or why not? I did not use any other solutions the group proposed because I was the person who came up with the solution, and I found it was the best one in this situation.
4. How would you rate your ability to collaborate with others in your group on a scale of 1-4 (1 not good; 4- excellent) I would rate it a 3 because after the first class when the teacher said he was going to take our phones away if we weren’t using them for learning purposes, most of the group started to pay attention and help the rest of the group.
core competency reflection:
If I notice …, that’s a sign that my group needs help and we can get support by… On the first day that we started this project, my group was very confused throughout the entire block. On the second day, I noticed that we were all still a bit confused so I asked the teacher for more help explaining what we needed to do. And by the end of the second day we understand the project way more.
I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation... For this project the teacher gave us multiple options to chooses from to pay our down-payment. During class my group and I tried all of the different options to pay the down-payment and that is what help us find the best option for us.
I can work with others to achieve a goal… Our goal for this project was to find a way to reach our goal of being able secure the amount needed for a down-payment within three years. I worked with others while trying different methods to secure the amount needed for a down-payment. In the end we achieved this goal.
I can find it easy to be part of a group... Most of the time i find it very easy to be apart of a group, but sometimes when the group puts no effort in i find it very hard to the the task that we need to do. thats why i like to be in a group with people i already know and i know their work habits.
Safety is super important aspect in our daily lives whether it’s in real life or online, it doesn’t matter if you’re crossing the street or posting an image, you need to remember to be safe. Nowadays it is especially important to remember online safety, this is because the internet can be a very dangerous place if not used properly. For example, if you posted something you shouldn’t have. Something like that can drastically change how people view you. In today’s online world, we should all try to have a positive digital footprint that reflects how you want to be seen, because if you have a negative footprint all it takes is a simple and easy search of your name by employers to have reasons not to choose you. Maybe you shouldn’t have posted that photo from a party or maybe you shouldn’t have posted all that about your personal life. All these unsafe activities can negatively impact your life and reputation. Don’t forget that there are many things that you can do to keep yourself safe. Including, making all your accounts private, thinking before you post, never sharing your passwords and being careful who you chat with online. When our parents were younger, they didn’t need to worry as much about the things they did or said as much. But now that we have the internet, we need to remember that everything is there forever. That is why it is important to remember all they ways you can protect yourself and your future, and to leave a positive footprint.

Personal/Social Competency Reflection
Some of the ways I work to build and maintain online relationships are… I can maintain my online relationships by reaching out and talking with my friends as much as possible. I can also maintain relationships by always thinking before I send something because the easiest way to lose online friends is by saying something mean and then they unadd you.
Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include… I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle both online and in person. Some of my preferred strategies are making sure to think before I post anything, remembering that my digital footprint will follow me for the rest of my life, especially when I try to get a job when I am older, and finally taking occasional social media breaks to reset.
My values around (ex. Achieving high grades in school)… inform my decisions about (ex. How much time I spend on my personal device engaging in recreational activities)… My goal throughout high school is to get good marks in all my classes. Something that may cause me not to get to my goal is the amount of time I spend on social media, rather than using my time to be doing my assignments that are online.
