Math Self Assessment

By doing…in the classroom, I make a positive difference to my peers. When we’re doing group math, and someone in my group is stuck on a step, or doesn’t know how to do the question. I try to help them by suggesting to them how to do the question.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I… When I’m stuck on my math homework, I try to take a break so I can re-focus and boost my mood so I’m ready to start working towards trying to solve the difficult problem in a positive manner.

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is… Parabolas. We worked on parabolas for a long time because they were all connected throughout units 3, 4, and 5.

To celebrate an accomplishment such as ____, I … To celebrate an accomplishment such as good test marks, or solving a difficult question. I try to reward myself with a break, to refresh.

Unit Concept Connections:

Kinematic Equations

Curricular Response

  1. Kinematics 1D

The ideas from Kin 1D to 2D, builds on each other. Starting in 1D, we have the basic v = d/t, which then evolves into 3 big Kinematics equations that become prominent even in the later units.

  1. Kinematics 2D

Core Competency Reflecting and Assessing

How did you approach trying to answer the above question? I approached it by trying to remember what connections I can make between the two similar units.

Does seeing these connections make you more confident in our scientific understanding of reality? Does it change or reinforce your confidence in science as a superior way of determining truth? Yes because I am able to understand things such as how velocity, distance, and time are related together. The theory also helps reinforce these ideas, because they explain how it works too.

Economic Theory 12: Final Reflections

Semester Reflection

Economic Theory 12: Reflection

What was the topic of your inquiry project?

This semester, I completed an independent inquiry project about the Japanese Asset Price bubble.

Summarize the most important/interesting parts of your project in 2-3 sentences.

I felt that the most interesting part about my inquiry topic was learning about what happened during my parent’s childhood because they didn’t really know anything about it. I also really found how everything I learned in the course came together in the project. It was surprising to me seeing someone like Ray Dalio whom I met at the start of the course, and ending the course with him too.

Explain how you gathered information and expressed your ideas in your project. Give an example of something you found.

I also practiced using research skills. One of the best pieces of evidence I used for this project was from Ray Dalio’s video about the economic machine. The topic about Ray Dalio’s video was economic bubbles. It really helped me understand the inner workings about what was happening, but also how to fix it.

Explain your thinking: in what ways is this significant and relevant to life in 2024?

This is significant to 2024 because for example China, is experiencing something similar to this right now. If they don’t do anything to fix it, then it could cause mass havoc around the world. But also being wary about the future.

Core Competency Reflection

I have valuable ideas to share about… and do so by… expressing it through my work, and by talking with my peers to share my ideas.

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is… When we did the exercise about watching the 5 videos about Adam Smith, and then having the group discussion taking turns talking.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by… asking questions when I don’t understand something, or need help with something.

Science Unit Core Competency Self-Assessment

Artifact:

Science Project (Energy Transformation)

Explanation:

Thinking

I used creative thinking in this assignment by collaborating with others in my group so we can share ideas that we thought of by critically thinking. We were able to build on each other’s ideas to make new and improved better ones. Although we didn’t meet the required time, I think with more practice, and or more information we could have made it.

Communication

I also used communication by talking to the audience while presenting, I could have improved my section of the presentation if I looked up and maybe had practiced my lines more so that I would be able to saw it flawlessly.

R2 – Harajuku Fashion

What is your opinion on Harajuku fashion? Do you think these styles could be popular in Canada?

Harajuku Fashion is very weird but also very unique. Harajuku Fashion consists of a variety of different types of styles such as, Decora (Rainbow colours and excessive amount of accessories), Gyaru (Dyed hair, lots of makeup, and strange hairstyles), etc.

Due to Canada’s welcoming of these different things like LGBTQ, as they weren’t so welcoming of it before. I think that eventually if it becomes more popular and more popular within the western fashion sense then I’m sure that we could see this on the streets of downtown, or even in schools. Although even if people are welcoming this, there will be people who don’t welcome it and will probably be mean about it, Harajuku Fashion is all about expressing what you feel and what you want to dress as.

R1 – Sando

Why do you think Japan is so creative with its sandwiches? How do these compare to the sandwiches available in Canada?

Japan is so creative with their sandwiches because of the flavours that make them so unique from Canada. For example the Japanese sandwich ランチパック, they make some interesting flavours like sticking fruits into sandwiches which is something I’m not sure Canadians would eat. Another interesting flavour is a cafe all cream, which is to me really unique.

What is the most creative meal you have made or had? Would it taste good in sandwich form??

I haven’t really have had any creative meals but a Japanese meal that maybe some non-Japanese people haven’t had before might be Chirashizushi. To be honest I don’t really like it but Japanese people think it’s tasty. It might taste good in sandwich form but I doubt it.

What sandwich type are you most excited to try? (Upload a photo if you make one!)

I really want to try a Yakisoba-pan. I really like eating Yakisoba so I’m sure it would be so good if it were in between a koppe-pan.

If offered by him, would you eat a part of Anpanman’s head? Why??

I don’t really like Anpan, but I would do anything to eat カレーパンマン’s head because Curry Pan is my favorite Japanese bread. I really like Curry Pan because Japanese Curry itself is very delicious.

Reflecting on My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

This year I enjoyed, learning how different middle school, and high school are from each other. I also liked learning all of these new things that I hadn’t had learned in middle school. I especially enjoyed having all the different teachers, and having them teach me a subject specialized to them.

My Favorite Website

https://centennial.myweeklyplanner.net/

This is one of my favorite websites because this website that lets me book flex, and flex time has really helped me get school work done, or take a load off of my back when I have a lot of work due.

Favorite Video

I really enjoyed learning about the American Revolution, because I found the topic about two countries at war, really interesting. I also found the 7 Years War also really interesting, this terms social studies was really fun.

My Favourite Image

This image me and my partner made for ADL, we were supposed to make a monster to be used in the Hunger Games. We fused a bear, toucan, humming bird, and a unicorn to make Gringamor.

My Favourite Quote

I think this was a good educational quote because I think that it actually resonates with me. I also decided to choose this one because, it makes more sense to me that some other educational quotes.

Learning the Scientific Method: Self Assessment

Artifacts: Egg Drop

Side View of the Egg Drop Device
Egg Drop Device with egg in it

Artifacts: Golf Tower

On the floor
Free standing

Curricular Response:

The build process of the golf tower, was quite different from my build process of the egg drop. The build process of the golf tower was quite disappointing because, it took a long while for the tower to build, but it could not withstand the weight of the golfball. In the end, I took the initiative to make a small cylindrical tube to put the golf ball on, so we could get at least a singular point. The final height was around 1’2 if I recall correctly. The egg drop was equally as disappointing as a result, because my device could not protect the egg from the fall. When it came for my time to drop, I had a microscopic amount of hope when the device was dropping, because from what I saw at the top, the device was falling slower than at the speed of the ones that my peers had made, but in the end the egg cracked.

Both of these experiments have greatly improved my understanding in the scientific method because I learned that experiments are trial and error, and also how to make a proper hypothesis.

Core Competency Self Assessment and Creative Thinking

  • I’m most proud of my egg drop assignment because, I actually had fun, and hope during the experiment process, and the build process.
  • A challenge I had to overcome was in the golf tower challenge, where my partner wanted to build it by himself, and due to this we became short on time, and if we didn’t have any structure to hold a golfball by the end of the class we would get no marks. So I took one for the team, and built a structure that would at least get us that mark.
  • My experience understanding the two Scientific Methods is, since that both of my labs, we mostly failures I understand experiments are trial and error.
  • Tell me how you did the following:

A) I demonstrated that I can create new things when I have prototypes as ideas that I can build on, and have a good hypothesis to test.

B) I demonstrated that I can build on the ideas of others when I can communicate with my partner and talk to them, to discuss ideas that we both agree on and can improve.

C) When trying new things, I expect setbacks and failure and use them to develop my ideas. An example of this from the Scientific Method labs would be when I write my conclusion, or when I analyze my data.

RSelf Study

What you did well and how you can improve your Japanese study habits?

In my opinion something I did well is, using my prior Japanese knowledge and using it to learn more in this class, as well as learning new things and more that I previously didn’t know. I can definitely improve by studying, and memorizing kanji / particles and how the work. I can do this by casually studying when I’m feeling bored and have nothing to do.

Answers to 3 of the following Core Competencies

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is kanji. I have spent a lot of my spare time studying kanji that at my level in Japanese, I should’ve previously known, so I’m using this class as an opportunity to learn what I need to know.

I appreciate feedback on my work, and what I need to improve on, and prefer it comes in the form of short, but informative on what I need to spend more time in.

To celebrate an accomplishment such as learning something new, or forming a difficult sentence, feel more encouraged to learn more, and try to make more sentences.
