Reflecting On My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

This year I enjoyed meeting new people and all the things i’ve learned over this year in all of my classes. I also love that I got to be in the same school with kids that I’ve played lacrosse with my whole life and got to experience them outside of sports. I learned a ton from my different teachers and find it way better to learn different subjects from different teachers because I can focus on those subjects better and can find a way to relate to each teacher. I also loved how I got to play for a couple sports teams that I didnt have in middle school, like the hockey and lacrosse team and got to play with much older kids like grades 11 and 12 that I never would’ve met if not for these sports.

My Favourite Website

https://www.nhl.com/

I love the NHL website because whenever i’m not learned or finish my work early, I can go onto this website and see the latest scores, stats, highlights, etc. of any league in the world and I find it very cool. I also did a project on the NHL in my business class and learned a lot about the ins and outs of the business and about the game.

My Favourite Video

This video is of my Great Gatsby project I did in my first semester in English. I dont think I ended up doing well on the project but I had fun making it and read a book, which I don’t do often and I ended up really enjoying the book.

My Favourite Image

This is a photo of me playing hockey for Centennial. I’ve made lots of friends with people I wouldn’t have met if not for this sport at the school because I met grade 11 and 12 students that are nice and have futures at cool universities next year.

My Favourite Quote

This quote was said to me by my coach a couple years ago and has stuck with me since that day. It can relate to my school because it forces me to do everything to the best of my ability and leave no regrets behind. I feel like it forces me to be better than I was the previous day.

My Sway: Gold

Curricular Competency Reflection

What questions did you need to research in order to create your sway?

I was very curious about gold and I was asking myself what other things other than jewelry that gold was used for.

b. What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?

I used the website History, as I use it for all my projects.

c. What was the process you used to investigate the topic and how did you verify and cite the information you found?

To verify the things i saw, I looked at the websites they used and used websites I trust to look for my information. I also used websites that you cant change the information.

d. How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?

The process was easy but it took a while for the ppt. I think I could’ve spent more time on it.

Core Competency Reflection

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is… the periodic table.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I… read books.

I can describe how my assignment relates to this my learning because it is about what we learnt in class.

ADL – Math Scenario

First Graph is the best thing that can happen, which is 3 years of incline in my stocks.

Year  Stocks  Savings Total

Year 0) $80,000  $0 $80,000

Year 1) $80,000 + 10,000 x 1.075= $96,000

Year 2) $96,000 + 10,000 x 1.075= $113,200

Year 3) $113,200 + 10,000 x 1.075 = $131,690

Each year, I would add $10,000 to the total (from the savings) add it to the stocks, then multiply it by 1.075.

The next graph I am about to show is the worst thing that can happen, which is 3 years of decline.

Year Stocks Savings Total

Year 0) $80,000  $0  =$80,000

Year 1) $74,480 x 0.931 + 10,000= $84,480

Year 2) $84,480 x 0.931 + 10,000= $88,650

Year 3) $88,650 x 0.931 + 10,000= $92,533.97

The last thing I will be showing is what should happen, or has a higher chance of happening than the other ones, is 2 years incline, 1 year decline.

Year  Stocks  Savings Total

Year 0) $80,000  $0 $80,000

Year 1) $80,000 x 1.075 + 10,000= $96,000

Year 2) $96,000 x 1.075 + 10,000= $113,200

Year 3) $113,200 x 0.931 +$10,000= $115,389.20

For the first 2 years, the stock market was inclining. The last year I ended up losing money from decline.

Justification

I am a person who likes to take risks. If i get lucky and have 3 years of incline, I not only make my goal, but I get $11,000 extra that I get. The downside to stocks is that you never know if its going to incline, decline, or stay the same. If I have 2 incline years and 1 decline year, I dont reach my goal, but I get very close to it. Although they are risky, im a person of risk and that stocks would be my pick, not only in this scenario, but in real life as well.

Collab and Contribution

I felt that our group was split up because the boys and girls would split up so there was less people to work with and learn different views from. Either than that, I felt that I learned a lot, talked and discovered stuff about different people like their strengths and weaknesses in math, and I felt we made a good use of the time we had and with the people in the group. We did try to take different approaches to some stuff we were doing, like what if we added savings before adding the rate. I would rate my ability to work with others a 3.5/4

Core Competencies Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in my graphs and my writing that I wrote, so that you can clearly see what I did, and if I did anything wrong then I can easily go and change it as its needed.

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to either ask the teacher about the disagreement, or invite a 3rd party in and ask them what they think should be the agreed upon term. Another thing I find helpful is taking a step back, doing some research, etc.

I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener.

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.

I can work with others to achieve a goal.

The Great Gatsby: The Movie

My Movie

Plot, Character, Setting and Mood

I figured out my avatar because I watched the movie and I felt that I already had his head in my brain. I understood he was an older, fine looking man from the 1920’s. I learned that you cant just put something that doesn’t affect the end of the story. I chose my plot points by picking the things I feel are the most important. Mr. Gatsby’s house shows hes rich, him and Daisy in the tea party both shows they’re nervous or embarrassed, and the last slide is them dancing and showing they’re confident and happy together. I figured out the setting because since its an older book, they told me where they are, West Egg, New York, the time, 1920, what their city looked like, etc. I think the mood means like the genre of the book. If its a love book, you need some romantic music because they’re falling in love. If its a war book, you have to have some intense music on while they’re fighting to make it feel more real. I picked my song, ‘Romantic’ because I felt the book was of two people who were in love again after not seeing each other for five years, and you get to see them fall in love all over again.

Core Competency Reflection

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I go outside and go for a walk for about twenty five minutes, or I go into my backyard and shoot pucks, work on my lacrosse skills, or play basketball against my brother. Every once in a while I take a thirty minute nap or go play with my dog.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is when I did the last three slides, I did all my work cited, said what I though would happen by the end of the book, and my thoughts and final review on the book and if I would recommend it to anyone.

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are taking a break and not trying to rush through something, and taking my time and staying on task. I also try to take walks and play with my dog to do my activities with a clear head and not saying no to an idea I may have.
