My Work: Curricular Competency Reflection

Core Competency Reflection

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is how to write properly and express my thoughts. The work above is the journal assignment from class, and I think it is a very good assignment that helps me to expand and improve my critical thinking. I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is that after every assignment returned to me, I will look at the feedback and try to do a better job next time. Also, I will book flex or cent time in English when needed to ask questions or do extra practice to improve my learning.

Food Truck Menu Brochure Reflection

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. This skill demonstrated on that I can adjust the template in Canva and add in more my own ideas. I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior. It is challenged for me to organize the brochure well and easy for people to read. I add in some visualize pictures as a reference for the customer to see while looking at my brochure. I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. While I am creating my own food truck brochure, I consider from the view as a customer, and trying to do something different then the common food truck.

Core Competency Reflection

Evidence that I can acquire information about complex and specialized topics from various sources, synthesize it, and present it with thoughtful analysis can be found in this piece that I created. This piece that I created is very relevant to today’s popular topic, AI. I demonstrated my understanding of what AI is and performed the topic by drawing my ideas out. I struggle with the composition of this piece a lot, as I do not have a complete image in mind. By reaching out to other artists’ work, I slowly build up my ideas from various artworks. I chose to use the most basic and simple material for this piece. Since the value drawing can perform a strong visual directly to the audience, I am very happy with how my final piece came out.

Sewing Project #3

#ThinkingCC

I can deliberately learn about things that interest me, and new ideas pop into my head. An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas can be demonstrated in my third project. I chose to crochet for my third project. It is also a new technique that I have to learn. I have done some simple crochet before, and I found it interesting for me, so I want to learn more about it. I search for ideas on the internet and make changes based on other people’s ideas. I change the colour to match the pattern of the pieces and make up my own design. It is very fun for me, and I would like to learn more about crochet in the future.

Where I’m From Essay

My Paper

The Writing Process

The most difficult part of this assignment was determining what to write about in the essay. I started by interviewing my mother because she could give me some advice. She is the one who knows most of the family history stories. Following my chat with my mother, I decided to interview my aunt. I was surprised by the number of part-time jobs she had previously held. I enjoyed talking with my aunt and learning about her and her husband’s stories. It is an excellent assignment that will teach us about our family history.

Core Competency Reflection

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is I will review the comments and edits made by my teacher for each assignment after it has been graded. Because I can recognize my mistakes and know how to better the following time. I show that I value feedback from others in my group by making my work available for others to read. I can’t find my mistakes on my own, thus advice from others is really important in helping me improve my work. In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by sharing ideas with my groupmate. Hearing multiple points of view and organizing them can help me gain a better understanding. Some long-term goals for myself include improving my writing skill and learning different techniques for writing. My plan to achieve them is to do my best in every writing assignment and learn from my mistakes once they have been graded by the teacher.

Comparative Culture Core Competency Reflection

I can persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behaviour. My support network is beneficial to me since it can assist me in locating the resources that I require. This is a difficult course for me because it is project-based. I’m not very good at finding things on the internet and grouping them together. I can feel my progress in my studies from the beginning to the mid-term. I may look for information on many various websites and articles and come up with my own ideas for how to paraphrase the main topic.

I can work with others to achieve a goal. I learned a lot through the project of Egypt vs Mesopotamian. As an active listener, I notice that I lack communication with others. I’m hoping to grow braver and engage in more dialogue with others. During the project, I should share more thoughts with my groupmate. To gather diverse people’s perspectives and advice in order to better my project.

First sewing project-Irregular ruffles tiered skirt

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. For my first sewing project, I choose to make a tiered skirt. I found a basic tiered skirt tutorial on youtube and make changes to it. I use my creative thinking skill to help me find ideas for my project. I added three extra irregular ruffles and made colour blocking at the fabric. Which made the skirt has a richer visual sense than before.

Art Studio 11 Core Competency Self-Assessment

This is the final project and the favourite piece I created in the art course. I use acrylic paint on the canvas to create my work of art. I get my ideas from the concept of protecting the environment and relate it with some traditional culture of my community. I forced creative thinking skills into this piece. I developed my creative thinking skill this semester. I can know where to start and stretch for new ideas. It is a good improvement as creative thinking is a helpful and important skill for creating works of art.

Core Competency Self Reflection (Self Regulation)

1. Do you tend to be interoceptive or exteroceptive?  Why do you think that?

I tend to be interoceptive. Being interoceptive can be more forceful in what I am doing. It is hard for me to concentrate. I am easily affected by the sound or things happening around me. I want to challenge myself and make myself more focused on one area.

2. What type of meditation would be best for your personal growth?

I think interoceptive meditation would be best for my personal growth. As I can not concentrate on myself, my brain will naturally pull out on other things by noise. I am easily distracted. I need to go against what my brain would naturally do at the moment to challenge myself. At this time, the meditation practice can invoke more neuroplasticity and more shift in brain states. When we are doing challenging stuff, we will learn from it and improve ourselves.

3. What type of breathing would be best for you to do during your meditation?

Slow cyclic breathing is the best type of breathing for me to do during my meditation. I can feel relaxed when I extend the time of inhaling and exhaling.

4.What type of breathing would be best for calming you down

As I do not do meditation and breathing often, the answer is not obvious as I think. I learned something during this podcast about the answer to this question. When we are feeling nervous, extending the exhale relatively to the inhale, or event that makes them active exhales is going to shift our nervous system in a direction of more calm.
