The Writing Process

The most difficult part of this assignment was determining what to write about in the essay. I started by interviewing my mother because she could give me some advice. She is the one who knows most of the family history stories. Following my chat with my mother, I decided to interview my aunt. I was surprised by the number of part-time jobs she had previously held. I enjoyed talking with my aunt and learning about her and her husband’s stories. It is an excellent assignment that will teach us about our family history.

Core Competency Reflection

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is I will review the comments and edits made by my teacher for each assignment after it has been graded. Because I can recognize my mistakes and know how to better the following time. I show that I value feedback from others in my group by making my work available for others to read. I can’t find my mistakes on my own, thus advice from others is really important in helping me improve my work. In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by sharing ideas with my groupmate. Hearing multiple points of view and organizing them can help me gain a better understanding. Some long-term goals for myself include improving my writing skill and learning different techniques for writing. My plan to achieve them is to do my best in every writing assignment and learn from my mistakes once they have been graded by the teacher.

Comparative Culture Core Competency Reflection

I can persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behaviour. My support network is beneficial to me since it can assist me in locating the resources that I require. This is a difficult course for me because it is project-based. I’m not very good at finding things on the internet and grouping them together. I can feel my progress in my studies from the beginning to the mid-term. I may look for information on many various websites and articles and come up with my own ideas for how to paraphrase the main topic.

I can work with others to achieve a goal. I learned a lot through the project of Egypt vs Mesopotamian. As an active listener, I notice that I lack communication with others. I’m hoping to grow braver and engage in more dialogue with others. During the project, I should share more thoughts with my groupmate. To gather diverse people’s perspectives and advice in order to better my project.

Textiles Core Competency Self-Assessment

First sewing project-Irregular ruffles tiered skirt

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. For my first sewing project, I choose to make a tiered skirt. I found a basic tiered skirt tutorial on youtube and make changes to it. I use my creative thinking skill to help me find ideas for my project. I added three extra irregular ruffles and made colour blocking at the fabric. Which made the skirt has a richer visual sense than before.

Making and Sharing Reflection

MAKING

These Eggs Benedict uses the poached method for the egg. Adding acids to the water can help to keep the egg together. In the scones, we use cold butter to cause flaky layers.The hollandaise Sauce brings out the creamy flavours in the eggs and scones. The production standards of Eggs Benedict are egg hollandaise, yellow, buttery and creamy. 

SHARING

My partner and I are enjoying the finished product. We use our creative thinking skills and communication skills to help us with design and planning. In future labs, I hope the open-mind thinking skills can help us think outside the box and be more creative. My partner’s individual and collaboratively abilities are both good. They can work individually to get their job done and be very patient in the cooperative workspaces.

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen when I need help. I will talk to my partner to confirm my steps are doing right. Before starting the labs, we will make a plan and make sure each other job.

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to discuss it together. We can even ask the group that is nearby. We get advice from other people. We need to figure out the solution and what is correct, to make a consistent answer.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I do not know well, I communicate with them and make a plan. Confirm each other’s job and then help to prepare ingredients.

As an active listener, I notice that I rarely speak in the group. My goal is to improve my communication skill. Have more discussions in the group, to share my ideas. By reaching this goal, I will try to join the chat once my groupmate is having it.

Graphing a Parabola

My Quadratic equation:

Standard parabola in read: y=x ^2

Parabola in blue: y=a(x-h)^2+k

The “a” value: In this equation, the a value is -1/3. If the a value is less than 0 (that means the number is negative) the parabola will face downward. This parabola is wider than the standard parabola because the a value is less than 1, as it is a function.

The “h” value: In this equation, the h value is -5. When the h value has been subtracted in the equation, it makes the parabola shift horizontally to the right.

The “k” value: In this equation, the k value is -4. A negative k value makes the parabola shift vertical down. If the k value is positive, the parabola will shift up.

Significance:a, h and k values give a different forms to the parabola. They can decide the parabola is facing down or facing up; shift left or shift right; shift up or shift down.

The equation of parabola is written. There is a picture of my parabola and standard parabola graph by using the DESMOS. I explain in word about how the a, h and k values make the different then the standard parabola.

I use the mathematical vocabulary like: shifts, parabola, vatical, horizontally to help me better describe in this assignment.

First, I use two colors to distinguish the standard parabola and my parabola. Second, The explanation is clearly written in sentences and list. I also bold the important words.
