I can deliberately learn about things that interest me, and new ideas pop into my head. An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas can be demonstrated in my third project. I chose to crochet for my third project. It is also a new technique that I have to learn. I have done some simple crochet before, and I found it interesting for me, so I want to learn more about it. I search for ideas on the internet and make changes based on other people’s ideas. I change the colour to match the pattern of the pieces and make up my own design. It is very fun for me, and I would like to learn more about crochet in the future.
I can persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behaviour. My support network is beneficial to me since it can assist me in locating the resources that I require. This is a difficult course for me because it is project-based. I’m not very good at finding things on the internet and grouping them together. I can feel my progress in my studies from the beginning to the mid-term. I may look for information on many various websites and articles and come up with my own ideas for how to paraphrase the main topic.
I can work with others to achieve a goal. I learned a lot through the project of Egypt vs Mesopotamian. As an active listener, I notice that I lack communication with others. I’m hoping to grow braver and engage in more dialogue with others. During the project, I should share more thoughts with my groupmate. To gather diverse people’s perspectives and advice in order to better my project.
First sewing project-Irregular ruffles tiered skirt
I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. For my first sewing project, I choose to make a tiered skirt. I found a basic tiered skirt tutorial on youtube and make changes to it. I use my creative thinking skill to help me find ideas for my project. I added three extra irregular ruffles and made colour blocking at the fabric. Which made the skirt has a richer visual sense than before.
This is the final project and the favourite piece I created in the art course. I use acrylic paint on the canvas to create my work of art. I get my ideas from the concept of protecting the environment and relate it with some traditional culture of my community. I forced creative thinking skills into this piece. I developed my creative thinking skill this semester. I can know where to start and stretch for new ideas. It is a good improvement as creative thinking is a helpful and important skill for creating works of art.
This is a diagram that showing the relationship in nature. There is a life balance between each items on earth. The plants get energy from sun and produce oxygen and glucose. This process called photosynthesis. The oxygen produce for animal and human. Human and animals need air. They will produce carbon dioxide after they get the air into their body. This is called respiration. After that, the plants will absorb the carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen again. This is how the earth work. It have a perfect organization in each relationship in the nature.
Self-Assessment I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. For this art work, my idea is to show what is a Chinese tradition lion dance look like. I build up the idea go through a picture of a traditional Chinese lion dance head. Then I want to draw about the people is performing the dance. As we used to have this type of performance in a big festival or parade. It dance with drum beat. I also add some Chinese elements in the background. That’s all my thinking and creating process of this art work.
I can value diversity, defend human rights, advocate for issues, and interact ethically with others.
What are some pros and cons of modifying genes? Who do you think should watch over this (to discourage evil geniuses, of course)?
There are both pros and cons to modifying genes, but we need to use this technology formally. The pros of changing genes are that people can use this technology to breed many new varieties of food, fruit, and vegetables. For example, people transplanted shark genes into tomatoes, and as a result, they got cold-resistant and high-yield tomatoes, because shark genes have the characteristics of cold resistance and can survive in the deep sea for a long time. The cons of modifying genes are that it has the potential to disrupt the impact on the natural environment. According to the original intention of genetic modification engineers, they just want to transplant the gene that promotes plant growth into certain plants, such as corn, to cultivate a kind of corn with a high yield and short growth period. However, the pollen of corn modified by genetic transplantation can also intersect with the pollen of weeds, which may produce a fast-growing and strong weed, which affects the balance of nature’s environment and harms our living environment. People need to use this technology correctly and ethically. Produce us more new products that are beneficial to people and nature. Don’t let some criminals use this technology to do harm to human beings and nature. Otherwise, it will become uncontrollable. When we discover some new technologies, we must make good use of them to make our life and the future better.
